It cannot be necessary, in this place, to discuss the question of the greater expediency of printed, or extempore, prayers; inasmuch as any one who desires such a publication as this may be supposed to have already decided that question in his own mind. A single remark, however, may be offered on the difference which exists between one class of printed prayers and another; and that remark will probably be rendered most intelligible by the use of a familiar illustration. Alike in united prayers and in united praises, one main object must always be, to obtain the greatest amount of real sympathy and union of heart and voice.
