THE Prayers in Bishop Taylor's Holy Living, composed for the use of individual worshippers, are here adapted to family worship, either in private houses or in schools. The words, excepting the forms at the end of the book, are chiefly those of Taylor; but different prayers have been compounded, and parts omitted, and slight alterations made, in order to suit the purpose for which these are designed.

If by any persons these Prayers should be considered too short, the addition of one or more collects from the Liturgy can readily be made. But it will be found that they are very expressive and comprehensive in respect both of praise and petition.

LESSED Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures

to be written for our learning; grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of Thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which Thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

LMIGHTY God, the fountain of all wisdom, who

knowest our necessities before we ask, and our ignorance in asking; we beseech Thee to have compassion upon our infirmities; and those things, which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask, vouchsafe to give us, for the worthiness of Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A

LMIGHTY God, who hast promised to hear the petitions of them that ask in Thy Son's Name; we beseech Thee mercifully to incline Thine ears to us that have made now our prayers and supplications unto Thee; and grant that those things which we have faithfully asked according to Thy will may effectually be obtained, to the relief of our necessity, and to the setting forth of Thy glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
