The resolution relative to a road from La Plaisance Bay Harbor to the Chicago Road, submitted yesterday by Mr. Lawrence, was taken up and adopted.

The resolution submitted this day by Mr. Drake, relative to printing, was taken up and adopted; and,

Messrs. Drake, Brown, and Rumsey, were appointed the committee contemplated by said resolution.

The "bill for the relief of Mahala Fowler," reported this day from the committee on the unfinished business of the last session, was taken up, read the first and second times, and having been considered in committee of the whole, was ordered to be engrossed and read the third time to-morrow.

The "bill relative to the appropriation for the expenses of the Legislative Council of Michigan, for the year 1829," was taken up and read the third time.

Mr. Drake moved that the bill be amended by striking out from the commencement of the preamble to the word "whereas," in the 8th line thereof. The motion was decided in the negative.

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft, said bill was then passed.
On motion of Mr. Lawrence, the Council then adjourned.

THURSDAY, Sept. 17, 1829.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Coston.

Mr. Schoolcraft presented the communication of William Ward, soliciting in behalf of George L. Whitney, a share of the printing required by the Council. Read and referred to the committee appointed to superintend the printing for the Council.

Mr. Drake, from the committee of Enrolment, reported as correctly enrolled, a bill entitled "an act relative to the appropriation for the expenses of the Legislative Council of Michigan, for the year 1829;" and the I resident signed the same.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on the Judiciary, also reported, A bill to amend an act, entitled "an act for establishing Courts of Probate," approved April 12, 1827; which was read the first time and laid on the table.

Mr. Lawrence, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported, A bill to amend an act, entitled “an act authorising Administrators de bonis non, to prosecute suits commenced by the executor or administrator of the estate, and for other purposes," approved July 3, 1828; which was read the first time and laid on the table.

Mr. Connor presented the claim of James Connor, for compensation as a Commissioner to lay out a certain Territorial Road; also, the claim of Narcis Bordeneau, for services as packer and cook, rendered certain Commissionors appointed to lay out a Ter ritorial Road. Referred to the committee on Claims.

The bill for the relief of Mahala Fowler, was taken up, read the third time and passed,

The resolution relative to the speedy distribution of the laws, submitted by Mr. Stockton on the 11th inst. was taken up and amended by inserting the words, "and journals," in the last line thereof; and said resolution was then adopted.

The resolution relative to blacks and mulattoes, submitted yesterday by Mr. Trowbridge, was taken up, and, on motion of Mr. Drake, adopted.

The resolution relative to making La Plaisance Bay Harbor a port of entry, submitted yesterday by Mr. Durocher, was taken up and adopted.

The resolution relative to a further appropriation by Congress for the completion of the Saginaw and Fort Gratiot Roads, submitted by Mr. Trowbridge on the 15th inst. was taken up, and, on motion of Mr Drake, adopted.

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft,

Resolved, That the special committee on Internal Improvement be instructed to inquire into the expediency of petitioning Congress for the improvement of the bar of Lake George, in the River St. Mary, by placing buoys, or otherwise.

The resolution relative to compensation for laying out Territorial Roads, submitted on the 11th inst. by Mr. Trowbridge, was taken up and adopted.

A message by Mr. Forsyth :

Mr. President-The Governor on the 16th inst. approved and signed the resolution requiring the Secretary of the Territory to furnish the Council with a certain number of copies of the Laws and Journals.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the Council then adjourned.

FRIDAY, Sept. 18, 1829.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Brown.

The President presented the petition of Ephraim Lacy, and oth ers, inhabitants of the township of St. Joseph, praying that a county may be set off and organised, and bounded as stated in said petition; also, the petition of Jonathan Garwood and others, upon the same subject. Read and referred to the committee on Territorial Af

fairs.

The President also presented the petition of S. B. Walling, and others, inhabitants of the township of St. Joseph, praying for the laying out of a Territorial Road, from the Chicago Road, where the same crosses the Cold Water Creek, to the mouth of the River St. Joseph. Referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

Mr. Schoolcraft presented the petition of John Hulbert, and others, inhabitants of the Saut de Ste. Marie, praying for the incorporation of a Company for the purposes of exploring and working the Copper and other Mines existing in the country northwest of Lakes Huron and Michigan. Read and laid on the table.

Mr. Noble presented the petition of Lucy Chapel, (and papers accompanying the same,) praying that a law may be passed, divorcing her from her husband, William Chapel. Said petition was read, whereupon,

Mr. Noble moved that the deposition and petition be referred to a select committee to be composed of three members. The motion was agreed to, and,

Messrs. Noble, Durocher, and Trowbridge, were appointed said committee.

Which was read the first time and laid on the table.

Said bill was then considered as in committee of the whole, and, on motion, ordered to be engrossed and read a third time on Tuesday next.

Mr. Trowbridge presented the claim of Alexander Tacles, for his services as a Commissioner appointed to lay out a certain Territorial Road; and also for the services of two men, furnished by said Tacles for the Surveyor. Referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Irwin moved that the petition presented this day, from sundry inhabitants of the Saut de Ste: Maric, for the incorporation of a Mining Company, be referred to a select committee of three members. The motion was agreed to, and,

Messrs. Schoolcraft, Irwin, and Drake, were appointed said committee.

The resolution authorising the Librarian to cause books and pamphlets to be bound, submitted on the 14th inst. by Mr. Schoolcraft, and then read and laid on the table, was taken up and read the second time; and having been considered as in committee of the whole, was ordered to be engrossed and read the third time on Monday next.

Mr. Brown presented the claims of Th. C. Sheldon, Sheriff, and Nathaniel Champ and J. M. Wilson, Deputies, for services. Referred to the committee on Claims.

On motion of Mr. Irwin, the Council then adjourned.

SATURDAY, Sept. 19, 1829.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Brown.

Mr. Noble, from the select committee to whom was referred the petition of Lucy Chapel, reported,

"A bill to dissolve the marriage contract between William Chapel and Lucy Chapel," which was read the first time, and, on motion of Mr. Irwin, was read the second time by its title; and having been considered as in committee of the whole, said bill was, on motion of Mr. Noble, ordercred to be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

The bill to amend an act entitled "an act for establishing Courts of Probate," was taken up and read the second time; and having been considered as in committee of the whole, on motion of Mr. Drake, said bill was ordered to be engrossed and read a third time on Wednesday next.

Mr. Brown presented the accounts of Samuel Van Fossen and Calvin Marvin, for services in laying out certain Territorial Roads ; on motion, they were referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Rumsey submitted the following resolution, which was read and laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the propriety of amending or repealing so much of the act regulating elections in this Territory, as to give the individual who challenges the right to select instead of the elector, what part of the oath shall be taken; also, to provide by law, that the oaths of office of Justices of the Peace shall be administered by the County Clerks in their respective counties, and report by bill or otherwise.

The "bill for the relief of blacks and mulattoes," was taken up; and, on motion of Mr. Drake, said bill was read the second time and laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Lawrence, the Council then adjourned until Monday next.

MONDAY, Sept. 21, 1829.

Mr. M'Donell presented the petition of J. F. Chubb, and others, inhabitants of the township of Bucklin, in the county of Wayne, praying that surveyed townships numbered 1 and 2 south, range 9, east, may be set off and made a separate township, and be named "Lima." Read and referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

The President presented the memorial of William Justice, and others, inhabitants of St. Joseph township, remonstrating against the organisation of a new county, agreeably to the boundaries prayed for in the petition of Ephraim Lacy, and others, heretofore presented. Referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

Mr. Rumsey presented the petition of David E. Lord, and others, inhabitants of the county of Washtenaw, praying that tiers of towns" on the north and "three tiers of towns" on the west side of said county may be taken therefrom and attached to some other county. Referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

The "bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to prevent Private Lotteries," was taken up, read the second time, and again laid on the table.

The "bill to set off and organise the township of Saline, in the county of Washtenaw," was taken up, and again laid on the table for further consideration.

The resolution authorising the Librarian to cause books and pamphlets to be bound, was taken up, read the third time and passed.

The bill for the relief of Lewis Greaves, was taken up and read the third time.

Mr. Trowbridge moved that the bill be amended by striking out the preamble thereto; and the motion was decided in the afirmative.

Mr. Trowbridge then moved that said bill, as amended, do now pass; and the motion was agreed to.

So the bill passed.

The "bill to dissolve the marriage contract between William Chapel and Lucy Chapel, of the county of Mourse, in the Territory of Michigan," was taken up, read the third time and passed.

The resolution relative to the law regulating elections and to the oath of office of Justices of the Peace, submitted on the 19th inst. by Mr. Rumsey, was taken up and adopted.

Mr. Brown submitted the following resolution, which was read and laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs inquire into the expediency of amending the "act concerning Estrays," approved 12th April, 1827; so that any person or persons having in his or their possession any stray horse, sheep, or cattle, &c. shall deliver to the Clerk of the township where such estrays may be, a description of the same, or be liable to a penalty for a non-compliance with said act and also, for making such provision as will secure, for the use of the town, the overplus moneys arising from the sales of Estrays, provided for by the aforesaid act.

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft,

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire whether there be any provisions in the existing laws regulating elections, which are found impracticable, or inexpedient in their operation, so far as relates to the counties of Brown, Crawford, Michilimackinac and Chippewa.

Mr. Stockton submitted the following resolution, which was read and laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of repealing the act entitled "an act relative to the Mission Family at Michilimackinac."

A message on Executive business was received by the hands of Mr. E. A. Brush.
