The bill to divide the township of Farmington in the county of Oakland, was read a third time, ordered to lie on the table.

The bill to amend an act entitled an act amendatory to the several acts now in force,relative to costs and fees, approved May 9, 1829, reported with amendments on the 17th instant, was taken up.

The amendments being concurred in,
On motion of Mr. Fletcher,

Ordered, That the bill lie on the table.

The bill to establish an academy in the county of Oakland, was read the third time.

On motion of Mr. Mr. Le Roy,

The bill was amended, by reinstating the words striken out in committee of the whole on the 14th instant, by striking out the name of William Chamberlain, and inserting that of Elizer Goodrich, and by filling the blank with the words "second Tuesday in April."

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft, the bill was further amended by striking out the proviso of the 6th section. Mr. Le Roy moved that the bill pass,

The question being taken, it was decided that the bill pass, and that the title thereof be,

An act to establish an academy in the county of Oakland.

Mr. Kingsley agreeably to previous notice, asked leave to bring in a bill to lay out a certain Territorial road. Leave being granted, Messrs. Kingsley, Durocher, and Drake, were appointed a committee to bring in the bill.

Mr. Drake, agreeably to previous notice, asked leave to bring in

A bill for the relief of Peter Schoonover, and

A bill to encourage the raising of sheep in the Territory of Michigan.

Leave being granted, Messrs. Drake, Bartow, and Le Roy, were appointed a committee to bring in the bills.

Messrs. M'Donell, Kingsley, and Durocher, were appointed the committee, contemplated by the resolution of the 22d inst. relative to removing from office persons convicted of gambling.

The Council took a recesss until 3 o'clock.

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft,

The 44th rule was amended, by adding thereto, the following" if required by the member making the call."

Mr. M'Donell presented an account of Isaac Day, for allowance as Crier at the December term of the Supreme Court, 1831. Referred to the committee on Claims.

The Council resumed as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill concerning divorces.

The question being on the amendment offered by Mr. Drake on the 21st, to insert after the word "circuit," in the first section the words " or county" was put and decided in the negative.

Mr. Lawrence requiring the ayes and nays,

Those in the negative, are

Messrs. Durocher, Fletcher, Kingsley, Lawrence, Schoolcraft, Stockton, Edwards-7.

Mr. M'Donell moved to amend, by adding to stand as section 10, the following:

"That it shall not hereafter be lawful for the Legislative Council to grant a bill of divorce to any person that may apply for that purpose."

The amendment being rejected, Mr. M'Donell required the ayes and nays.

Messrs. Bartow, Brown, Drake, Durocher, Fletcher, Kingsley, Lawrence, Le Roy, Schoolcraft, Stockton, Edwards-11.

In the affirmative, Mr. M'Donell-1.

Mr. Kingsley moved to amend by striking out in the first section, the words "or such conduct on the part of the husband or wife, as renders it unsafe or improper for them to live together.

The amendment was rejected.

On motion of Mr. M'Donell, the further consideration of the bill was postponed to the next meeting of the Legislative Council.

The bill to provide for laying off into separate counties, the district of country adjacent to Grand River, and for other purposes, was read a second time, and

On motion of Mr. M'Donell,

Ordered, That the bill lie on the table.

The Council proceeded to consider as in committee of the whole,

The bill to authorize the auditor of the Territory to effect an insurance on the public building called the "Capitol" against fire.

On motion of Mr. Drake,

The bill was amended by striking out in the 2d section the words 'free of any rent or charges' and the words 'or the county of Wayne.'

On motion of Mr. Lawrence,

The bill was laid on the table.

The bill to amend an act entitled, an act to regulate the admission and practice of attorneys and counsellors at law,' was read a second time and considered as in committee of the whole.

Mr. M'Donell moved to strike out the word 'six,' and insert the word 'no,' in the first section.

The motion was negatived.

Mr. Stockton presented a petition from Almasa Houston, for a divorce.

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Schoolcroft presented an account of Elliot Gray, for stationary.

Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

The following bills were reported, read the first time and laid on the table.

A bill to incorporate the Hydraulic Company of the City of Detroit.

By Mr. Drake from the select committee, to whom the subject was referred,

A bill to aid the raising of sheep.

A bill for the relief of Peter Schoonover.

A bill to amend an act entitled an act to regulate and define the powers of Justices of the Peace, and constables in civil cases, and a bill relative to constables, a consolidated bill, entitled a bill to amend the several acts regulating and defining the powers and duties of Justices of the Peace in civil cases, and other purposes.

A bill to regulate proceedings in criminal cases. By Mr. Durocher, from the committee on Claims, A bill for the relief of Joseph Dozet and Alexis Loranger Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Affairs to whom was recommitted, the bill for opening a free communication between the city of Detroit and the River Aux Raisin, &c. reported the same with amendments.

The bill and amendments were laid on the table.

A message was received from the Governor of the Territory on Executive business.

The bill to amend the act, entitled an act to district the Territory of Michigan, and to provide for the election of members of the Legislative Council, approved July 3, 1828, and for other purposes, was read a second time and laid on the table.

The bill to amend the several laws now in force for the relief and settlement of the poor, was read a third time.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the bill was amended line 4, section 1, by inserting after the word "Territory" the words "except the city of Detroit."

Mr. Drake moved that the bill pass. The question being taken, it was decided that the bill pass, and that the title thereof, be

An act to amend the several laws now in force for the relief and settlement of the poor.

The bill to amend an act entitled an act to amend an act entitled an act to regulate taverns," was read a third

time.

On motion of Mr. M'Donell, the bill was amended by inserting after the words 'service' section 1, the words within the limits of any military ground."

Mr. M'Donell requiring the ayes and nays,

Those who voted in the affirmative, are Messrs. Bartow, Brown, Drake, Kingsley, Le Roy, M'Donell, Stockton-7.

Those in the negative, are Messrs. Durocher, Fletcher, Lawrence, Schoolcraft, Edwards-5.

Mr. Drake moved that the bill pass.

Mr. Stockton moved a reconsideration of the vote, on accepting the amendment offered by Mr. M'Donell. The motion was negatived.

On motion of Mr. Schoolcraft, the bill was recommitted to the Judiciary committee.

The bill for the relief of Charles Lafontaine, was read a third time.

Mr. Lawrence moved that the bill

pass.

A message was received from the Governor by Mr. Rowland, who notified the Council, that the Governor had this day approved and signed bills with the following titles.

An act to continue the charter of the Bank of Michigan. An act to authorise the Supervisors of St. Clair county to erect certain bridges."

An act to amend an act entitled an act to prescribe the tenure of Auctioneers, and to levy a duty on sales at auction in certain cases.

An act concerning township clerks.

The bill for the relief of Martha Garlick, was taken up. Mr. Drake moved that the bill pass.

The question being taken, it was decided that the bill pass, and that the title thereof be,

An act for the relief of Martha Garlick.

Mr. Le Roy from the committee on the Judiciary to whom was recommitted the bill establishing courts of Common Pleas in certain counties, and defining their powers and duties, reported the same with amendments,

On motion, the bill and amendments were laid on the able.

The Council went into the consideration of Executive business and having disposed of the same, took a recess until 3 o'clock P. M.
