40. And if any Man will fue thee at the Law, and take away thy Coat, let him have thy Cloke alfo.

41. And whofoever fhall compel thee to go a Mile, go with him twain.

42. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.

43. Ye have heard that it hath been faid, Thou fhalt LOVE thy NEIGHBOUR, and HATE thine ENEMY.

44. But I fay unto you, Love your ENEMIES, BLESS them that CURSE you, DO GOOD to them that HATE YOU, and PRAY for them which SPITEFULLY ufe you, and

PERSECUTE you.

45. That ye may be the Children of your Father which is in Heaven; for he maketh his Sun to rife on the EVIL and on the GOOD, and fendeth Rain on the JUST, and on the UNJUST.

46. For if ye love them which love you, what Reward have ye? Do not even the Publicans the fame ?

47. And if ye falute your Brethren only, what do you more than others? Do not even the Publicans (†) so ?

14. BLESS them which perfecute you: BLESS, and curse not. 16. Be of the fame Mind one towards another.

AKE (w) heed that you do not your ALMS before Men, to be feen of them: otherwife ye have no Reward of your Father which is in Heaven.

vi. I.

2. Therefore when thou doft thine ALMS, do not found a Trumpet before thee, as the HYPOCRITES do, in the Synagogues and in the Streets, that they may have GLORY of Men. Verily I fay unto you, they have their Reward. 3. But thou, when thou doft ALMS, let not thy left Hand know what thy right Hand doth.

4. That thine ALMS may be in fecret: and thy Father which feeth in fecret, himself fhall reward thee openly.

Ver. 5.AND when thou PRAYEST, thou shalt not be as HYPOCRITES are: for they love to PRAY ftanding in the Synagogues, and in the Corner of the Streets, that they may be SEEN of Men. Verily I fay unto you, they have their Reward.

6. But thou when thou PRAYEST, enter into thy Clofet, and when thou haft fhut thy Door, PRAY to thy FATHER which is in fecret, and thy Father which feeth in fecret, fhall REWARD thee openly.

7. But when ye PRAY, ufe not VAIN REPETITIONS, as the Heathen do: for they think they shall be HEARD for their much SPEAKING.

8. Be not ye therefore like unto them; for your FATHER knoweth what Things ye have NEED of before ye afk him.

9. After this manner therefore PRAY ye: Our Fa ther, which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name. 10. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done on Earth

as it is in Heaven.

14. For, (x) if ye FORGIVE Men their TRESPASSES, your heavenly Father will alfo FORGIVE yours.

15. But if ye FORGIVE not Men their TRESPASSES, neither will your Father FORGIVE your Trefpaffes.

(x) Ephef. iv. 31. Let all BITTERNESS, and WRATH, and ANGER, and CLAMOUR, and EVIL-SPEAKING be put away from you, with all MALICE.

32. And be ye KIND one to another, TENDER-HEARTED, FORGIVING one another, even as God for Chrift's fake hath FORGIVEN you.

Col. iii. 12. Put on therefore (as the Elect of God, holy and beloved) Bowels of MERCIES, Kindnefs, humbleness of Mind, Meeknefs, Long-fuffering;

13. Forbearing one another, and FORGIVING one another, if any Man have a Quarrel against any: even as Chrift FORGAVE you, fo alfo do ye.

14. And above all thefe Things put on CHARITY, which is the Bond of PERFECTNESS.

Of FASTING.

Ver. 16. Moreover, (3) when ye FAST, be not as the Hypocrites, of a fad Countenance: for they diffigure their Faces, that they may appear unto Men to FAST. Verily I fay unto you, they have their Reward.

17. But thou, when thou FASTEST, anoint thine Head, and wash thy Face.

18. That thou appear not unto Men to FAST, but unto thy Father which is in fecret: and thy Father which feeth in fecret, fhall reward thee openly.

(3) Ifai. Iviii. 4. Behold, ye FAST for Strife and Debate, and to fmite with the Fift of Wickedness; ye fhall not FAST as ye do this Day, to make your Voice to be heard on high.

5. Is it fuch a FAST that I have chofen? a Day for a Man to AFFLICT his Soul? Is it to bow down his Head as a Bullrufh,
