ACQUISITION OF LANDS IN UINTA NATIONAL FOREST

FRIDAY, JULY 23, 1965

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, SUBCOMMITTEE ON FORESTS OF THE COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE, Washington, D.C.

The subcommittee met, pursuant to notice, at 10 a.m. in room 1302, Longworth House Office Building, Hon. John L. McMillan (chairman of the subcommittee) presiding.

Present: Representatives McMillan, Teague, Quie, Mrs. May, and Burton.

Also present: Jane Wojcik, staff assistant, and John J. Heimburger, general counsel.

Mr. MCMILLAN. The subcommittee will come to order.

At this point we shall hear Congressman King on his bill, H.R. 8344, to authorize the acquisition of certain lands within the boundaries of the Uinta National Forest in the State of Utah, by the Secretary of Agriculture.

A BILL To authorize the acquisition of certain lands within the boundaries of the Uinta National Forest in the State of Utah, by the Secretary of Agriculture

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, to promote in timely and adequate manner control of floods that may originate thereon and the reduction of soil erosion through the restoration of adequate vegetative cover and to provide for their anagement, protection, and public use as national forest lands under principles of multiple use and sustained yield, the Secretary of Agriculture is authorized to acquire such of the nonfederally owned land in the area described in section 2 ereof as he finds suitable to accomplish the purposes of this Act.

SEC. 2. This Act shall be applicable to lands within the boundary of the Uinta National Forest described as follows:

SALT LAKE MERIDIAN

Township 5 south, range 3 east, sections 25 to 27, inclusive, and sections 34 to , inclusive.

Township 6 south, range 3 east, sections 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 26.

Township 5 south, range 4 east, sections 27 to 35, inclusive.

Township 6 south, range 4 east, sections 2 to 10, inclusive, and section 16.

SEC. 3. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated for purposes of this At not to exceed $ to remain available until expended.
