For the Office of the Surgeon-General of the United States Army: Two clerks of class four; two clerks of class three; one clerk of class two; and five clerks of class one. For General Land-Office: Three clerks of class four; two clerks of class three; four clerks of class two; and twenty-one clerks of class one.

For Indian Office: Two clerks of class one; and two copyists, at $900 each per

In the Office of the Register of the Treasury: Five chiefs of division, at $2,500 each; one disbursing clerk, at $2,000; twelve clerks of class four; twelve clerks of class three; four clerks of class two; five clerks of class one; one hundred counters and copyists, at $900 each; eight messengers, at $840 each per annum; six assistant messengers and laborers, at $720 each per annum.

The Secretary of the Treasury is authorized to pay, when discharged, one month's pay to such clerks and employés in the Executive Departments at Washington, D. C., as shall be discharged at the close of the present fiscal year, (June 30, 1875,) without fault on their part, but by reason of the reductions of force made necessary by legislation of Congress: Provided, That the amount so paid shall be deducted from the salary of any person receiving the same who shall be re-appointed within six months of the date of such discharge.

The maximum compensation of each surveyor of customs, performing the duties of collectors of customs, is fixed at $5,000 per annum; increase not stated.
