Mr. Drake then moved that said bill be ordered to be read a third time; and the motion was decided in the negative by the following vote, Mr. Drake requiring the ayes and nays :

So the bill was lost.

The memorial to the Congress of the United States, asking for the grant of a section of land to enable the several counties of the Territory to erect public buildings at the seats of justice of said counties, was taken up, and, on motion of Mr. Lawrence, was adopted.

The resolution requesting from the Secretary of State of the United States, ten entire sets of the laws of the United States, and two copies of the reports of the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States, was taken up and adopted.

The memorial to the Congress of the United States, relative to an additional body to the Territorial Legislature was taken up, and the amendments made thereto by the committee on Territorial Af fairs, were received.

On motion of Mr. Noble, the memorial was further amended; and, on motion, it was then adopted.

On motion of Mr. Stockton,

Resolved, That the Governor of the Territory be requested to open a communication with the proper authority for the establishment of a branch of the Bark of the United States at Detroit.

The memorial to the Congress of the United States, asking that the laws of Congress in relation to the Territory of Michigan, may be so altered, as to enable the Legislature of the Territory to declare certain offices elective, was taken up and adopted.

The bill to attach a portion of country therein named to the county of Wayne, was taken up.

Mr. Lawrence moved that said bill be postponed until the next session of the Council; and the motion was agreed to by the following vote, Mr. Brown requiring the ayes and nays:

The bill defining the powers of courts of record in cases of con tempt, was taken up ; and,

Mr. Noble moved that said bill be postponed until the next session of the Council; and the motion was agreed to by the following vote, Mr. Drake requiring the ayes and nays:

On motion of Mr. Noble, the Council went into the consideras tion of Executive business; and having disposed of the same,

Mr. Lawrence moved that a committee of two members be appointed to wait upon the Governor of the Territory, and to inform him that the Council was about to adjourn. The motion was agreed to; and,

Messrs. Lawrence and Noble were appointed said committee. A message on Executive business was received by the hands of Mr. E. A. Brush.

On motion, the Council went into the consideration of Executive business; and having disposed of the same,

The Council, on motion, agreed to take a recess of one hour. The time of the recess having expired

Mr. Lawrence, from the committee appointed to wait upon the Governor, reported, verbally, that the Governor would soon return certain bills which had been passed by the Council, and which had been sent to him for his approval and signature.

Mr. President-The Governor of the Territory has this day approved and signed an act to amend an act, entitled "an act to incorporate Medical Societies, for the purpose of regulating the practice of Physic and Surgery in the Territory of Michigan;" an act to amend, and in addition to, the acts to divide the several counties in this Territory into townships, and for other purposes ;" an act to prescribe the tenure of office of Auctioneers, and to

The Council then adjourned, sine die.

Note by the Recording Clerk.-Immediately after the final question on the passage of the "bill to provide for and regulate Common Schools," was decided, the bill was taken from the table of the Recording Clerk, in order to place it in the hands of the Clerks who were employed in enrolling, and before the 45th seetion had been stricken out, agreeably to the motion of Mr. Lavrence. In consequence, the bill was enrolled, signed by the President, and by the approval and signature of the Governor, became a law before the error was discovered.
