So the House refused to lay the resolution on the table.
The question then recurring on the said resolution,

Mr. Cobb moved to amend the same by inserting after the word " that the words," the gentleman from Massachusetts, Mr. Train, and."

Pending which, and during the debate thereon,

Mr. Dawes was called to order by Mr. Jackson for words spoken by him, whereby he had insinuated, as alleged by Mr. Jackson, that the gentleman from Alabama (Mr. Cobb) was not a gentleman.

The speaker decided that, inasmuch as the words spoken did not, in his opinion, admit of the construction given them by Mr. Jackson, the member from Massachusetts, Mr. Dawes was in order.

No appeal having been taken from this decision of the Chair, Mr. Dawes proceeded with his remarks.

After further debate,
Mr. Dawes moved the previous question; which was seconded.
Pending the question on ordering the main question,
Mr. Hatton moved that the whole subject be laid on the table.

So it was ordered that the main question be now put.

The Speaker having stated the question to be first on the amendment submitted by Mr. Cobb to the resolution submitted by Mr. Sherman

Mr. Crawford made the point of order that the propositions to censure the said members (Messrs. Train and Houston) fell by reason of other business having intervened.

The Speaker overruled the said point of order.
From this decision of the Chair Mr. Crawford appealed.
Pending which,

On motion of Mr. Israel Washburn, jr., Ordered, That the said appeal be laid on the table. Mr. Winslow moved that the whole subject be laid on the table. And the question being put,
