Guerin and Topping. And so the resolution was not adopted. The following resolution in relation to the Secretary appointing additional clerks, Was then taken up for consideration. Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate be and is hereby authorized to appoint from time to time, such assistant clerks as the necessities of the business of the Senate may demand. Mr. Moonlight offered the following amendment: Resolved, That Miss Alice Armsby, of Mound City, be and is hereby appointed Assistant Enrolling Clerk of the Senate. That Miss Emma Hunt, of Emporia, be and hereby is appointed Assistant Engrossing Clerk of the Senate; and that all other clerks necessary for enrolling and engrossing as business may increase shall be appointed by the Enrolling and Engrossing Clerks respectively, with the approval of the President of the Senate: And provided further, That should any Standing or Special Committee require the services of a clerk, such Committee shall have power to employ not more than one person, and report the same to the President of the Senate. Mr. Butler moved to lay the resolution on the table. Mr. Winter offered the following amendment to the amendment: Provided, That the assistant's pay shall not begin until their services are required. Which amendment was adopted. The question then being upon the adoption of the amendment offered by Mr. Moonlight, as amended, A vote was had, And it was not adopted. Mr. Brandley then offered the following resolution: Resolved, That the President of the Senate is hereby authorized to appoint, from time to time, such assistant clerks as the necessities of the Senate may demand. S. Clelland. Mr. Murdock nominated Rev. F. S. McCabe. Mr. V. P. Wilson nominated Rev. Mr. Patten. Mr. Palmer nominated Father Defouri. A ballott was then had with the following result: Mr. McCabe received 17 votes. Mr. Patten received 10 votes. Mr. Defouri received 1 vote. Mr. Matheny voted for Mr. Clelland.
