The President communicated a report of the Secretary for the Department of War, made in obedience to the resolution of the Senate of the 2d of March, 1815, in relation to Indian affairs; and the report was read.

Ordered, That the committee on finance and an uniform national currency, to whom was referred the petition of the legislative council and house of representatives of the Indiana Territory, praying the suspensions of prosecutions under the law laying a tax on domestic manufactures; and the memorial of John Redman Coxe, professor of chemistry in the University of Pennsylvania, be discharged from the further consideration thereof respectively.

After the consideration of executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

Mr. Roberts presented the petition of Ferdinando Fairfax, of the city of Washington, in behalf of himself and others, praying the renewal or extension of certain patents granted to William Thornton for inventions in and applicable to steam navigation, for reasons stated in the petition; which was read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee to whom was referred on the 11th inst. the bill for the relief of the widow and children of Robert Fulton, deceased; to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Mr. Wilson submitted the following motion for consideration:

Resolved, That the report of the Secretary at War of the 7th instant, made in compliance with the resolution of the Senate, of the 30th of January last, be referred to the committee on military affairs, with instructions to inquire into the expediency of authorizing by law, the filling up, and preserving complete, by enlistment, the military establishment of the United States, as now
