Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

The President communicated a report of the Secretary for the Department of War, made in obedience to the resolution of the Senate of the 2d of March, 1815, in relation to Indian affairs; and the report was read.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill respecting the late officers and crew of the sloop of war Wasp; and the bill having been amended, the President reported it to the House accordingly.

On the question-"Shall this bill be engrossed and read a third time?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Daggett submitted the following motion for consideration,

Resolved, That the committee appointed on so much of the message of the President of the United States as relates to finance and an uniform national currency, be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for an augmentation of the salaries of the judges of the supreme court of the United States.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill concerning certain advances made for the public service by the city of New-York.

On motion by Mr. Sanford,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until Thursday next.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress insurrection, and repel invasion, and to repeal the laws heretofore passed for those purposes. On motion by Mr. Varnum,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed to and made the order of the day for Monday next,

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill to ascertain and establish the western boundary of the tract reserved for satisfying the military bounties allowed to the officers and soldiers of the Virginia line, on continental establishment.

On motion by Mr. Mason, of Va.

Ordered, That the further consideration of the report of the committee to whom was referred the resolution relating to the claims of the officers and soldiers of the Virginia line, on State establishment, for bounty lands, be also postponed to, and made the order of the day for Tuesday next.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act for the relief of Gustavus Loomis ;" and

Ordered, That it pass to a third reading.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act authorizing and requiring the Secretary of State to issue letters patent to Andrew Kurtz." On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until Wednesday next.

On motion by Mr. Campbell,

Ordered, That the committee on finance and an uniform national currency, to whom was referred the petition of the legislative council and house of representatives of the Indiana Territory, praying the suspensions of prosecutions under the law laying a tax on domestic manufactures; and the memorial of John Redman Coxe, professor of chemistry in the University of Pennsylvania, be discharged from the further consideration thereof respectively.

After the consideration of executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1816,

Mr. Roberts presented the petition of Ferdinando Fairfax, of the city of Washington, in behalf of himself and others, praying the renewal or extension of certain patents granted to William Thornton for inventions in and applicable to steam navigation, for reasons stated in the petition; which was read.

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee to whom was referred on the 11th inst. the bill for the relief of the widow and children of Robert Fulton, deceased; to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Mr. Wilson submitted the following motion for consideration:

Resolved, That the report of the Secretary at War of the 7th instant, made in compliance with the resolution of the Senate, of the 30th of January last, be referred to the committee on military affairs, with instructions to inquire into the expediency of authorizing by law, the filling up, and preserving complete, by enlistment, the military establishment of the United States, as now

peace

fixed by law.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the

whole, the consideration of the bill to limit the right of appeal from the circuit court of the United States for the District of Columbia, together with the amendments reported thereto by the select committee, and having agreed to the amendments, the President reported it to the house accordingly. On the question-"Shall this bill be engrossed and read a third time?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill dividing the State of Pennsylvania into two judicial districts; and

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That the consideration thereof be further postponed to Tuesday next.

The bill entitled, "An act for the relief of Gustavus Loomis," was read a third time. Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.
