TO MY FRIENDS,

THE MEN AND WOMEN

OF

CHERITON,

THIS BOOK IS AFFECTIONATELY DEDICATED

BY

THE AUTHOR.

PREFACE.

So many books have already been written upon the Lord's Prayer, that some apology seems needed for adding to the number.

These "Thoughts" having been found helpful to the Men and Women of a country village, they are now published in hope that others also may derive some help and comfort from them.

I desire to thank the Authors and Publishers for their kind permission to use several Hymns in this volume. The Hon. Mrs. Gerard Noel, for two Hymns from "The Name of Jesus, and other Poems," by the late Miss C. M. Noel; Mrs. Monsell for three Hymns by the late Rev. John Monsell; Miss Havergal for two Hymns by the late Miss F. R. Havergal; Messrs. Nelson and Son, for two of the "Hymns from the Land of Luther"; and Mr. Mack, for two Hymns by the late Miss H. Bowman, from "Songs amid the Shadows."

I have also included several anonymous Hymns, the authors of which I have been unable to discover; but should any copyright have been unknowingly infringed, I should be glad to be made aware of it, that the mistake may be rectified.

CHERITON RECTORY, ALRESFORD,

E. C. O.

Easter, 1884.
