Mr. Martindale asked, and by unanimous consent obtained, leave of absence for one hour.

PETITIONS PRESENTED.

Mr. Ely presented the petition of L. G. Jeffers, asking the Legislature to memoralize Congress to change the currency and banking laws.

Mr. Blair presented the petition from the farmers and mechanics of Franklin county, for retrenchment in the public expenditures.

Referred to Committee on Finance and Taxation.

Mr. Simons presented the petition of L. Stillwell and others, for an act to provide for the appointment of phonographic reporters in judicial districts.

Referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Simons presented a petition from the Grand Council of the Settlers' Protective Association in behalf of 2,000 heads of families asking for an amendment to the occupying claimant law.

Mr. McFarland presented the petition of 800 tax payers, praying for the establishment of a reform school.
