Mr. Raines, from the committee on railroads, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Norton, Int. No. 813, entitled "An act to amend chapter 686 of the Laws of 1894, entitled 'An act for the preservation of macadamized public highways in Queens county,' in relation to railroads on Greenwich street in the village of Hempstead, county of Nassau" (No. 1208), reported in favor of the passage of the same, with some amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill ordered printed and recommitted to the committee on railroads.

Mr. Stranahan, from the committee on affairs of cities, to which was referred the Assembly bill introduced by Mr. DeGraw, Rec. No. 136, entitled "An act for the relief of former clerks and attendants of the County Court of Kings county for compensation in defending their title, et cetera" (No. 684), reported the same to the Senate, with some amendments.

On motion of Mr. Stranahan, and by unanimous consent, said bill was ordered printed and recommitted to the committee on affairs of cities.

Mr. Brown, from the committee on forest, fish and game laws, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Krum, Int. No. 955, entitled "An act to amend the Fisheries, Game and Forest Law, relating to hunting deer in certain counties" (No. 1297), reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill restored to its place on the order of third reading.

Mr. Brackett, from the committee on the judiciary, to which was referred the nomination of John M. Kellogg, of Ogdensburgh, as judge of the Court of Claims in the place of George M. Beebe, whose term of office is soon to expire, reported the same to the Senate for confirmation.

The Senate went into open executive session, and after some time spent therein, legislative business was resumed, and the President announced that said nomination had been confirmed.

Mr. Ford, from the committee on commerce and navigation, to which was referred the nomination of Horace E. Buel, of Port Richmond, as Special Port Warden, for the Port of New York, reported the same to the Senate for confirmation.

The Senate went into open executive session and after some time spent therein legislative business was resumed, and the President announced that said nomination had been confirmed.

Mr. Higgins, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the nomination of Josephine Shaw Lowell, James Wood, Charles H. Turner and G. Ernest Schmidt, as managers of the New York State Reformatory for Women, reported the same to the Senate for confirmation.

The Senate went into open executive session and after some time spent therein legislative business was resumed, and the President announced that said nominations had been confirmed.

Mr. White offered the following:

Resolved, That Senate bill No. 1284, entitled "An act in relation to education, constituting chapter 22 of the general laws" (Int. No. 65), be made a special order for Tuesday, April 11, immediately after the reception of messages from the Assembly.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Parsons offered the following:

Resolved, That the committee of the whole be discharged from the further consideration of Senate bill No. 593, entitled "An act to amend chapter 690 of the Laws of 1892, known as the Insurance Law" (Int. No. 541), and that the same be recommitted to the committee on insurance for a hearing.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Resolved (if the Assembly concur), That a respectful message be sent to the Governor, requesting the return to the Senate of Senate bill No. 116, entitled "An act to amend chapter 908 of the Laws of 1896, entitled 'An act in relation to taxation,' constituting chapter 24 of the general laws" (Int. No. 116), for the purpose of amend

ment.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk deliver said resolution to the Assembly and request their concurrence therein.

The Assembly returned the above resolution, with a message that they have concurred in the passage of the same.

Ordered, That the clerk deliver said resolution to the Governor. Mr. McCarren offered the following:

Resolved, That the committee of the whole be discharged from the further consideration of Senate bill No. 1224, entitled "An act for the protection and improvement of the purity of the waters of the State, and conferring additional powers on the State Board of Health" (Int. No. 908), and that the same be recommitted to the finance committee.

Mr. Wilcox offered the following:

Resolved (if the Assembly concur), That a respectful message be sent to the Governor, requesting the return to the Senate of Senate bill No. 848, Assembly reprint No. 1749, entitled "An act to protect the public health and to prevent mistakes in the handling of poison (Int. No. 443), for the purpose of amendment.
