LIST SHOWING THE NUMBER OF OFFICERS ON THE ACTIVE LIST OF THE STAFF CORPS INDICATED AS OF JUNE 30, 1926, AND OCTOBER 30, 1926 A9-10/00(260717). NAVY DEPARTMENT, Washington, December 4, 1926. MY DEAR MR. BUTLER: In your letter of July 17, 1926, you requested the number of officers in the Medical Corps, Supply Corps, Chaplains Corps, Construction Corps, Civil Engineer Corps, and Dental Corps of the Navy, with the grade and rank in which serving, and whether or not, in my judgment, the number of commissioned officers in these corps or either of them could be reduced without impairing the efficiency of the naval service. You further requested that this information regarding the number of officers in the various corps be furnished as of June 30, 1926, and October 30, 1926. This information is attached. I am of the opinion that the number of officers in the staff corps can be decreased except in the Chaplain Corps and Dental Corps. The matter is now under careful consideration and a full analysis is being made. I will be prepared in the near future to make gradual reductions to the number considered neces sary. Very sincerely, Hon. THOMAS S. BUTLER, Chairman Naval Affairs Committee, CURTIS D. WILBUR. House of Representatives, Washington, D. C.
