OTHER DEEPWATER PORT STUDIES

Mr. EVINS. Earlier you discussed the corps' deepwater ports studies. Are there any private or local government interests pursuing their own deepwater port studies?

General GRIBBLE. Practically every coastal State has or is in the process of conducting deepwater port investigations. In addition, some individual ports or port authorities are conducting their own studies. There are one or more private groups or consortiums on each of three coasts conducting feasibility studies, some of which are completed or in the advanced stage and near completion.

PROJECT BENEFITS

Mr. EVINS. Please provide for the record a listing of the corps' project benefits similar to that furnished the committee last year.

[The information follows:]

March 1974.

The only cumulative record the corps keeps of total benefits and cost allocations to a project purpose is for flood control. Remaining costs are not segregated by project purpose. However, the following tabulation does provide quantitative benefits provided by completed projects in our investment program.

Mr. EVINS. Prepare for the record a status report on the Corps, environmental impact statements like the one submitted last year for construction.

[The information follows:]

1 Represents total initial investment cost for flood control including the amount allocated to flood control in multiple-purpose power projects and the amount allocated to flood control in the Mississippi River and tributaries program.

2 Represents annual amounts for latest year available.
