[ocr errors]

Invocation.

N the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Litany of Jesus.

[The suffrages in brackets may be omitted, where brevity is desired.]

JESUS, Lamb of God, that takest away the

the world,

Take away our sins.

Jesus, who camest to seek and to save that which was lost,

Seek and save us.

Jesus, who art exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance and forgiveness of sins,

Give us repentance and forgiveness of sins.
Jesus, who hast invited the weary and heavy

laden to come unto thee, that thou mayest give them rest,

Give us rest.

Jesus, who art the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world,

Give us light.

Jesus, who ever livest to make intercession for thy people,

Intercede for us.

Jesus, who canst be touched with a feeling of our infirmities,

Have compassion upon us.

Jesus, who in that thou thyself wast tempted, art able to succour them that are tempted, Succour us in our temptations.

Jesus, who of God art made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption,

Be all this to us.

Jesus, who art the resurrection and the life,
Give us life.

Jesus, who hast promised, that him that cometh unto thee thou wilt in no wise cast out, Cast not out us.

Jesus, whose blood cleanseth from all sin,
Cleanse us from all sin.

Jesus, Son of God,

Have mercy upon us.

Jesus, Son of man,

Have mercy upon us.]

From all our sins and offences, and from the punishment due to them,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From hardness of heart, and impenitence; and from contempt of God's holy Word and Commandment,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From all fretfulness and impatience; from vanity and pride; from self-indulgence and neglect of others,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eye, and the pride of life,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From fear of man, and forgetfulness of God; from the snares of Satan, and the corruptions of our own hearts,

Good Lord, deliver us.

from

From irreverence and indevotion; profaning the mysteries of religion, and the means of grace; from repining at thy dispensations; neglect of thy warnings; and thankless receipt, or abuse, of thy mercies,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From an angry and haughty spirit; from selfconfidence and contempt of others; from the love of this present world, inordinate affections, and sensual appetites; and from neglect of the world unseen,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From terrors of conscience; from the fear of death; from, unrepented sin; from our ghostly enemies,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From the hidings of thy face; from unpreparedness for death; from distraction and distrust in our last conflict; from the wrath of God and the damnation of hell,

Good Lord, deliver us.

By thy invitations and thy promises; by thy merits and thy mercies; by thy servitude and suffering while on earth; by thy tenderness as man, and thy majesty as God; by thy Baptism, Fasting, and Temptation,

Good Lord, deliver us.

By Bethlehem, Gethsemane, and Calvary ; by the crown of thorns, and the cruel scourge, and the robe of scorn, and the shame and spitting; by the nails, and the gall, and the spear; by thine unknown Agony, and bitter Passion,

Good Lord, deliver us.

By thy body broken, and thy blood shed for us; by the sacramental memorials of thy love unto death; by thy coming to save, and thy coming to judge; by thy Burial, and Resurrection, and Ascension, and Intercession; and by all the graces of the Holy Ghost,

Good Lord, deliver us.

In prosperity and adversity; in wealth and poverty; in sickness and in health; in comfort and distress; in every time of trouble and of need, Good Lord, deliver us.

In weakness and temptation; when under provocations and reproaches; in the loss of friends; when love is cold, and faith faint; in our downfalls and declensions; in the hour of death, and in the day of judgment,

Good Lord, deliver us.

We sinners beseech thee, O Christ, to save us.

[That it may please thee to cleanse us from our sins, and to mortify our corruptions; to illuminate our judgment, and to sanctify our hearts; to put the fear of God before our eyes, and the love of God within our hearts; to endue us with thy Holy Spirit, and to conform us to thine own example;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to instruct us in our duty, and to enable us to perform it; to give us a tender conscience, and an earnest spirit; to uphold us in the slippery ways of the world, and give us sterling integrity of heart; to save us from the enmity of men, from the malice of Satan, and from our own faults and follies; to support us in the hour of death, and receive us in the unseen world; to enable us to confess thee before men; and to confess us before the angels of God;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.]

Keep us as the apple of thine eye;
Hide us under the shadow of thy wings.
Son of God, we beseech thee to hear us.
