A FAMOUS RETIRED ACTRESS, MARY ANDERSON, APPEARS AGAIN ON THE STAGE

A host of middle-aged Americans still revere Mary Anderson as "the most beautiful woman on the stage." Long ago she left the theater, married, and made England her home. Recently she made her reappearance 'n London in the Shakespeare Festival as Lady Macbeth in the sleep-walking scene, in which character our photograph represents her

THOMAS A. EDISON IN THE PREPAREDNESS PARADE IN NEW YORK CITY Mr. Edison marched with the other members of the Naval Consulting Board in the great procession on May 13. Probably no other man among the great host was so eagerly looked for by the spectators, and applause and cries of "Edison!" were frequent as he passed. Like his associates who marched with him, Mr. Edison gave the impression, with his unostentatious manners and costume, of being a thorough democrat (with a small d, for the great inventor is known to be a Progressive and a Republican in his sympathies as to the approaching political campaign)

THE "SAFETY FIRST SPECIAL" A railway train with exhibits designed to show the people something of the helpful work which the Government is doing in their behalf has recently started on its travels. It consists of twelve cars, the interiors of two of which are shown above-the "War Department " car (including the Army Medical Department) and the "National Parks Exhibit " car.
