of baptism and the Lord's Supper; grant that I and my Christian companions may ever remember, how great are the blessings, and how great the responsibility of being a Christian. May all those who now celebrate their Lord's death, who now partake of the feast of the living bread, be established in their faith, in their hope, in their active brotherly love. O that Christianity might be, among its followers, not an outward profession only, but an inward principle of life. Lastly, I thank thee, Lord, for the great favour, the high privilege, the blessed use of prayer. What is more noble than prayer to thee, O thou most holy Being! How is my soul raised by communion with thee, Father of all men! Grant that these favours may work that which thou didst design by them, that they may enlighten our darkened souls, amend our hearts, still our conscience, sanctify our life.

All this I beg, not only for myself, but for my fellow-mortals-fellow-Christians. How many walk in sin and worldly-mindedness! How much want of knowledge, want of faith! Folly and sin reign yet in Christendom. O grant that the spirit, and desires, the temperance of Christianity, spread and show itself for the happiness of all mankind. Raise up sincere teachers of the truth, who may, with power, efficacy, and blessed effect preach thy word to immortal and dearly purchased souls. Send true labourers to the harvest, that every hearer may derive real benefit from the service of the church. Gracious Father! I have completed this day of rest through thy good care, let me find it again in eternity. Thou hast this day provided as a Father for my bodily and spiritual wants; and I have a filial trust, that thou wilt bring me on further, and provide for my good to all eternity. I recommend to

MONDAY MORNING.

"Teach me to do the thing that pleaseth thee, for thou art my God: let thy loving spirit lead me forth into the land of righteousness."-PSALM cxliii. 10.

THIS is my prayer to thee, my God and my Father, on the morning of a new day, to which thy mercy has brought me. One day tells another, that thou art love itself.

In thee I live, and move, and have my

being. The works of thy power and might surround me on all sides; and to the omniscient Lord are known my every thought, word, and act, even before they appear outwardly. My destiny is in thy hands; my whole being, in life and death, in time or eternity, hangs upon thee.

O how thankful I am, to have been brought, through the Lord Jesus Christ, to the blessed knowledge of thee and communion with thee. Grant that I may also think and act as a Christian.

As a Christian I must be a shining light -salt of the earth-an imitation of my Lord among my fellow-mortals. O thou who art the Father of all living, make me to love all my fellow-creatures as brethren; make me to act truly and faithfully in all the relations of life, as citizen, and householder; and teach me to fulfil all my duties as man, and Christian, with uprightness and truth. May religion be the guide of my life; by it may my occupations be ennobled, my duties lightened, my joy sweetened, my sorrows made easy to be endured.

In following the business of my calling, may I put far from me all irregularity, all idleness, selfishness, imprudence, all
