AN ACT

To incorporate the Titusville and Coopertown plank road company.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That

Wilson, William Henry, all of Crawford and Venango counties, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to open books and receive subscriptions, and organize a company by the name, style and title of The Titusville Style. and Coopertown plank road company," with power to construct a plank road from Titusville, in Crawford county, to Coopertown, in Venango county, with the privilege and authority to extend the same to Franklin, Venango county, by the nearest and best route or routes, as the stockholders and directors may determine upon, subject to all the pro- Subject to the visions and restrictions of an act regulating turnpike and plank road provisions and companies, passed the twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine, excepting that portion of the thirteenth section of said act relating to tolls which discriminate in favor of wheels of the width of four inches and upwards; and the company hereby incorporated shall have power to regulate their tolls, within the limits prescribed by the said thirteenth section, without reference to the width of wheels in any case.

SECTION 2. That the capital stock of said company shall consist of Capital stock. six hundred shares, at twenty-five dollars per share: Provided, That Proviso. said company may from time to time, by a vote of the stockholders at

a meeting called for that purpose, increase their capital stock so much as

carry out the true intent and meaning of this act.

AN ACT

Fixing the time of making assessments in Centre county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That hereafter the assessments of all taxes shall be made in the month of April, of each and every year, in the county of Centre; the said assessments to be made in accordance with the present law, in all respects. excepting the time as herein provided.

AN ACT

To prevent the killing of deer at certain seasons, in Union county; and relative to marriage certificates.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That hereafter it shall not be lawful to hunt, chase, or follow, with a design to Unlawful to kill kill or destroy, any buck, doe, or fawn, within the bounds of Union buck, doe or fawn county, except between the first day of September, and the first day of except. SECTION 2. AN ACT

To prevent the destruction of fish in certain streams of this commonwealth; extending the powers and privileges of the Health insurance company of Philadelphia; and directing the auditor general to give certificates of the claims of S. D. Karns and Henry Petrikin, for services performed in organizing the volunteer regiments from this state, in the Mexican war.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa tives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the provisions of the act of twenty-seventh of March, one thousand eight hundred and forty-five, passed for the protection of trout in Letart to Bonneybrook, spring, be and the same are hereby extended to Bonneybrook, and also all other tributaries of the said Letart spring.

SECTION 2. That it shall not be lawful for any person or persons to fish with seines, stir nets or drag nets, in the waters of Yellow creek, in Bedford county.

SECTION 3. Any person offending against the provisions of the foregoing section shall be subject to a fine of five dollars, which may be recovered by any person suing for the same, as debts of like amount are by law recoverable, one-half thereof to be paid to the person prosecuting for the same, and the other half to the treasurer of the board of school directors of the district, for school purposes, wherein the offence shall have been committed.

SECTION 4. That from and after the passage of this act, if any person or persons shall erect or put up a dam or fish basket, or prevent or obstruct the passage of fish in any way in the Mount Rock spring, in West Pennsborough township, Cumberland county, from where it empties into the Conodoguinet creek to its head at Mount Rock, during the months of March, April and May in each and every year, he or they on being convicted thereof, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence the sum of five dollars, to be sued for and recoverable with costs of suit before any justice of the peace, in the name of the commonwealth, at the instance of any person who will sue therefor, as debts of like amount are now recoverable by law, which said fine or penalty shall be paid to the treasurer of West Pennsborough school district, for the use of the schools in said district.

SECTION 5. That the Health insurance company of Philadelphia shall have power to insure the lives of any of its members, as well as all others, and to make insurance pertaining to life risks, and to receive and execute trusts, to make endowments, and to grant and purchase annuities; and it shall be lawful for any married woman by herself, and in her name, or in the name of any third person, with his assent, as her trustee, to cause to be insured for her sole use the life of her hus band, for any definite period, or for the term of his natural life, and in case of her surviving her husband, the sum or net amount of the insurance becoming due and payable, shall be payable to her, to and for her own use, free from the claims of the representatives of her husband or any of his creditors; and in case of the death of the wife before the decease of her husband, her amount of insurance, may be made payable

after death to her children for their use, and to their guardian, if under

age.

SECTION 6. It shall be lawful for said company to invest its funds in May invest its the funded debts of the United States, or of the state of Pennsylvania funds in the fundor other of the United States, of the county of Philadelphia or other ed debts of the counties, or cities or districts of the United States, and the same to sell, United States. transfer, change or otherwise re-invest, as the directors of said company may deem proper.

SECTION 7. That the auditor general is hereby authorized and directed

to settle and adjust the claim of S. D. Karns for the transportation of Auditor general authorized to adthe first regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers, from Harrisburg to Pittsjust the claim of burg, according to the contract between the said S. D. Karns and the s. D. Karns and commonwealth, in December, one thousand eight hundred and forty-six ; H. Petrikin. and also the claim of Henry Petrikin, for time spent, labor performed and expenses incurred by him in the organization of the first and second regiments of Pennsylvania volunteers aforesaid, by the direction and under the authority of Francis R. Shunk, then governor of this state; and that the said auditor general shall furnish the said S. D. Karns and Henry Petrikin with certified copies of said settlements, shewing the amount, if any, which may be due each of them.

AN ACT

Erecting parts of Beaver and Mercer counties into a separate county, to be called
Lawrence.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That all those parts of Beaver and Mercer counties within the following, boundaries, to wit: beginning at a post on the line between Butler and Boundaries. Mercer counties, at the corner of Wolfcreek and Slippery rock townships, in Mercer county; thence north-west with the line dividing said township, to the south-east corner of Springfield township; thence. westwardly between the townships of Springfield and Slippery rock, to the south-west corner of Springfield; thence northwardly along the line dividing Springfield and Lackawannock townships, three-fourths of a mile; thence westwardly parallel with the south line of Mercer county, to the Ohio state line; thence south with said line about eighteen and
