AN ACT

For the relief of William Johnston, James Hepburn and E. G. Heylman.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the canal commissioners are hereby authorized and instructed to examine the claims of William Johnston, James Hepburn and E. G. Heylman, for work done on section twenty-two, Tioga line of the North Branch division of the Pennsylvania canal, and report the amount due, if any, to the legislature.

A SUPPLEMENT

To an act to incorporate the Whitemarsh and Plymouth turnpike road company, passed the eighth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight.

WHEREAS, By the act to incorporate the Whitemarsh and Plymouth turnpike road company the road is required to be twenty-five feet in width, to be composed of limestone, or marble stone when the same is to be had:

And whereas, Such width will be very expensive, and not required by the travel, and the depth of stone required is one foot in depth, which depth is insufficient on part of the road; therefore, in order to improve the said road,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the said road, if made twenty-two feet wide, instead of twenty-five feet wide, a good and substantial road, to be composed of limestone or marble stone, when the same is to be had, well broken and firmly compacted together, and the depth of stone, on the mile nearest the Schuyl

kill, to be eighteen inches instead of twelve inches in depth; said company may be permitted to collect toll as is directed by the act of the eighth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight.

A SUPPLEMENT

To an act, entitled "An Act authorizing the governor to incorporate the Williams Valley railroad and mining company, in Dauphin and Schuylkill counties," passed the twenty-fifth day of May, Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-nine.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That

SECTION 2. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Solomon Solis, Simon Elfelt, Abraham Hart, Moses A. Dropsie, Solomon N. Carvalho, Isidore Binswanger, Marcus Cauffman, Lewis J. Cohen, Simon M. Klosser, Jacob Langsdorff, Isaac Leeser, Moses Nathans, Joseph Newhouse, Hyman Polock, Julius Stern, Herman Van Beil, Abraham S. Wolf, Lewis M. Allen, Mayer Arnold, Simon W. Arnold, David Barnett, Leon Berg, A. J. H. Bernal, Bernard Blum, Myer D. Cohen, Julius Davidson, Zadock A. Davis, Henry De Boer, Solomon Eckstein, David Eger, William Florance, P. provisions of this act, and promote the objects and designs of said cor-
poration.

SECTION 2. The object and design of the said corporation shall be the establishment of a school or schools within the limits of the city and county of Philadelphia, in which are to be taught the elementary branches of education, together with the sciences and modern and ancient languages, always in combination with instruction in Hebrew language, literature and religion, in the manner that may be determined from time to time, by the proper officers of the society, and as the same may be set forth in their constitution, by-laws and school regulations: Provided, Said constitution, by-laws and regulations are not inconsistent with this charter, or with the constitution of the United States, or the constitution and laws of this commonwealth.

SECTION 3. It shall also be lawful for said corporation to establish, whenever their funds will permit the same to be done, a superior seminary of learning within the limits of this commonwealth, the faculty of of learning. which seminary shall have power to furnish its graduates and others, the usual degrees of bachelor of arts, master of arts and doctor of law and divinity, as the same is exercised by other colleges established in this commonwealth.

SECTION 4. The society shall have power to adopt a constitution and By-laws. make by-laws, and the same to amend, alter or repeal at pleasure.

SECTION 6. AN ACT

To incorporate York Springs and Berlin turnpike road company.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Commissioners. William Wolf, C. Spangler, C. J. Deninger, B. Hildebrand, J. B. Backman, Samuel King, J. W. Krafft, George King, D. Mellinger, Arnold Gardner, Daniel Sheffer, Thomas Stephens, George Swartz, H. B. Raber and J. S. Hildebrand, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to open books, receive subscriptions and organize a company by the name, style and title of "The York Springs and Berlin turnpike road company," with power to construct a turnpike road, commencing at a point on the Carlisle and Hanover turnpike, at or near Philip Myers' tavern, in Adams county, by the town of Berlin, Subject to all the to a point on the Gettysburg and York turnpike, at or near Stambaugh's provisions and tavern, in York county, subject to all the provisions and restrictions of an act regulating turnpike and plank road companies, approved the twenty-sixth of January, Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine.

SECTION 2. The capital stock of said company shall consist of four hundred shares at fifty dollars each.

SECTION 3. That if said company shall not commence the construction of this road within three years, and complete the same within seven years from the passage of this act, then it shall be null and void, except so far as the same may be necessary to wind up the affairs and pay debts of the company.
