The Conquest of the IncasMacmillan, 1970 - 641 páginas This is the history of the penetration and overthrow in the sixteenth century of the last great empire totally unknown to the rest of mankind. The book deals with the entire conquest, fron the entry of Pizarro's small band of Spanish adventurers into the Inca empire, to the execution of the last independant Inca forty years later. The author also looks beyond the action to study relations between Spaniards and Indians at all levels, from the troubled consciences of Spanish kings and bishops to the working conditions in the silver mines of Potosi and on Peruvian farms. He ends with an account of modern searches for the lost city of Vilcabamba. |
