For Aid and Success in Study.

LORD Jesus Christ, the Eternal Wisdom of the Father, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, Assist us, we beseech Thee, with Thy heavenly grace, that we may be guided and blessed in all our studies, and that learning of Thee with honest hearts, we may be rooted and built up in Thee who art Thyself the Truth Incarnate, and, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God. Amen.

For the President of the United States, and All in Civil Authority.

LORD, our heavenly Father, the high and mighty Ruler of the universe, who dost from Thy throne behold all the dwellers upon earth; Most heartily we beseech Thee, with Thy favor to behold and bless Thy servant, the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, and all others in authority; and so replenish them with the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, that they may always incline to Thy will, and walk in Thy way. Endue them plenteously with heavenly gifts; grant them in health and prosperity long to live; and finally, after this life, to attain everlasting joy and felicity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For All Engaged in Arduous Work.

GOD, at whose word man goeth forth unto his work and to his labor until the evening; Be merci

ful to all whose duties are difficult or burdensome, and comfort them concerning their toil. Shield from bodily accident and harm the workmen at their work. Protect the efforts of sober and honest industry, and suffer not the hire of the laborers to be kept back by fraud. Incline the hearts of employers and of those whom they employ to mutual forbearance, fairness, and goodwill. Show Thy pity upon all prisoners and captives. Uphold those who administer justice and execute righteous laws. Protect all who travel by land or by sea. Care for the sailor, the emigrant, and the stranger. Bless those who labor in works of mercy, and in schools of good learning. Give wisdom and grace to all parents. Send forth laborers into Thy harvest; and defend by Thy mighty power, and abundantly prosper, all missionaries of the Cross. Give ear unto our prayer, O merciful and gracious Father, for the love of Thy dear Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Those Who Err from the Faith.

FATHER of lights, who art ever pitiful to the manifold wanderings of the children of men, and who hast given us Thy holy Word to be a lamp to our feet amid the darkness of this world; Have compassion upon all who, by denying the Gospel of Thy dear Son, have been led far off from peace, and become estranged from prayer; open their hearts to the truth, help them to cast down every proud thought, and make them to

become as little children that they may be wise, through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

For All Conditions of Men.

GOD, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind,

we humbly beseech Thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that Thou wouldest be pleased to make Thy ways known unto them, Thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for Thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by Thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to Thy fatherly goodness all those who are any ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please Thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

A General Thanksgiving.

To be said, with the Minister, by the whole Congregation.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Father of all Mercies, we,

thine unworthy servants, do give Thee most humble and hearty thanks for all Thy goodness and

loving-kindness to us, and to all men. We bless Thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for Thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech Thee, give us that due sense of all Thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we show forth Thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to Thy service, and by walking before Thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

The Advent of Our Lord.

ALMIGHTY God, give us grace that we may cast

away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which Thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through Him who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen
