Then shall be said the Apostles' Creed, by the Minister and Congregation, standing.

BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the

Father Almighty: From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost: the Holy Catholic Church: the Communion of Saints: the Forgiveness of sins: the Resurrection of the Body: and the Life Everlasting. Amen.

And after that, the Congregation sitting, with bowed heads, the Minister shall say,

The Lord be with you.

Answer.

And with thy spirit.

Minister. Let us pray.

O Lord, show Thy mercy upon us.

Answer. And grant us Thy salvation.

Minister. O God, make clean our hearts within us.
Answer. And take not Thy Holy Spirit from us.

Then shall be said these, or other, Prayers; closing, always, with the General Thanksgiving and the Prayer which follows it.

O

For Grace to know and Do God's Will.

LORD Jesus Christ, who didst send from the Father the Comforter, even the Spirit of Truth; Grant that He may enlighten our minds with the teaching of Thy truth, and sanctify our hearts with the power of Thy grace, so that evermore abiding in Thee we may be found steadfast in faith and holy in life, being conformed unto Thine image, who art with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

For Death to Sin, and Life in Christ.

GOD, who for our redemption didst give Thine only-begotten Son to the death of the cross; and

by His glorious resurrection hast delivered us from the power of our enemy; Grant us so to die daily from sin, that we may evermore live with Him in the joy of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Peace.

GOD, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; Give unto Thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that our hearts may be set to obey Thy commandments, and also that by Thee, we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

For Aid Against Perils.

LIGHTEN our darkness, we beseech Thee, O

Lord; and by Thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Brotherly Love.

LESSED Lord, who hast given us a new com

mandment that we should love one another, and hast taught us that where envy and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work; Give unto us Thy servants grace, that we may be kindly affectioned one to another, and that there may be no schism among us.

Put away from us all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and evil-speaking, with all malice; and grant that, in honor preferring one another, we may walk in love, even as Thou, Lord, didst love us, and give Thyself to die for our sins. Amen.

For Preservation from Distrust and Anrious Care.

O

MOST loving Father, who willest us to give thanks for all things, to dread nothing but the loss of Thee, and to cast all our cares on Thee who carest for us; Preserve us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties, and grant that no clouds of this mortal life may hide from us the light of that Love which evermore dwells in Thee, and which Thou hast manifested to us in Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Communion of Saints. For Patience and Victory.

O GOD, the Father everlasting, whom the glorious

hosts of heaven obey, and in whose presence patriarchs, prophets, apostles, martyrs, with all the spirits of the just made perfect continually do live; Fix the eye of our faith, we beseech Thee, with clear and full vision, on the great cloud of witnesses wherewith we are thus compassed about, that laying aside every weight, and the sin that doth so easily beset us, we may run with patience the race that is set before us, and obtain at last the crown of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
