APPENDIX II AMERICAN ACCIDENT TABLE1 As a basis for this table, the Schedule Z experience of insurance companies for policy years 1916 and 1917 for a large group of states was analyzed. This produced the fundamental distribution into fatal, permanent total, permanent partial and temporary total A further analysis was then made by employing data from various sources. For example, the distribution of the temporary total cases by duration of disability was effected largely on the basis of information contained in the reports of state industrial accident commissions, the division of permanent partial cases into "major" and "minor" cases was accomplished as a result of a special study of its experience by The Travelers Insurance Company. The resulting distribution, while not entirely accurate, is nevertheless extremely valuable for certain comparative purposes, particularly for valuation of the comparative cost of the benefit schedules of workmen's compensation statutes. The complete distribution follows: 1 An extended explanation of the method employed in the preparation of this table is contained in an article by Miss Olive Outwater which appears in the Proceedings of the Casualty Actuarial Society (Vol. VII, Part I, No. 15). |
