CODIFIED AND PUBLISHED BY ORDER OF THE SECRETARY OF WAR,

UNDER THE

SECOND SECTION OF THE ACT OF JUNE 23, 1879, AS FOLLOWS:

SEC. 2. That the Secretary of War is authorized and directed to cause all the regulations of the Army and general orders now in force to be codified and published to the Army, and to defray the expenses thereof out of the contingent fund of the Army

NOTES.

1. The Revised Statutes, and the laws passed since which modify or add to them, are printed in full, and embraced in the same index with the Regulations.

2. The Secretary of War, upon an opinion of the Judge Advocate General, directed that the codification should include all orders published since the date of the act authorizing the codification. This codification includes, therefore, General Orders, No. 20, of February 15, 1881. The work of codification was confided to the Adjutant General of the Army.

3. Certain subjects may perhaps be found under a different Article from the one to which they seem naturally to belong. The index will show where to look for them.

The following codification of the "Regulations of the Army and General Orders" is approved, and published for the instruction and government of the Army.
