The following resolutions were submitted, severally read, and ordered to lie on the table:

By Mr. Drake:

Resolved, That the committee on Roads be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the laying out and establishing a Territorial road from Green Point on the Saginaw River, to the Missionary wharf, or Fort Point, on the Peninsula, near the Island of Mackinac.

By Mr. Lawrence: •

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of laying a tax upon the several toll-bridges on the United States' road from the city of Detroit to the Ohio line, to the amount of a certain portion of their receipts for toll at said bridges, to be expended yearly in repairing said road. By Mr. M'Donell:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of assessing and levying a tax on all ardent spirits, vended, bartered or sold in this Territory, to aid in raising a sufficient fund for the purpose of establishing a Peaitentiary or work-house for the reception of convicts.

By Mr. Drake:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the assessment and collection of a Territorial tax upon all the toll-bridges within the Territory.

By Mr. Irwin:

Resolved, That the committee on Claims be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law, for the payment, out of the Territorial treasury, of the interest due on certain certificates, issued by the Fiscal Agent of the Council, in pursuance of an act passed on the 3d of July, 1828; and to report by bill or otherwise. By Mr. M'Donell:

Resolved, That the committee on Expenditures be instructed to inquire into the expediency of allowing Jeremiah Moors $38; a balance claimed by him for ornamenting the Legislative Hall with a cornice of stucco.

By Mr. Drake:

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to examine and inquire into the condition of the Capitol, and to report what provision is necessary to be made for its preservation.

The resolution relative to an amendment of the election law of the Territory, was again read, and having been altered by consent so as to insert the words, "or accept of;" was concurred in.

The resolution instructing the committee on Printing to inquire how many copies of the revised laws are in the hands of the binder, and how many ready for delivery, was again read and concurred in. The resolution relative to publishing the laws in the severai newspapers of the Territory, was again read and concurred in.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the Council went into the consideration of Executive business; after which,

The Council adjourned.

THURSDAY, June 3, 1830.

The following petitions and claims were presented:

By M. Durocher: A petition from sundry inhabitants of the county of Monroe, praying the establishment of a division line between the townships of Monroe and Erie, at Otter Creek. Referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

By Mr. M'Donell: A petition from Nathaniel Case and others, against annexing the townships of Huron and Plymouth to the county of Washtenaw.

Ordered, That the petition lie on the table.

By Mr. Stockton: A claim of Zephaniah W. Bunce, for superintending the printing of certain laws and executive acts, pursuant to a resolution of the Council of April 21, 1825. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr. Bartow, pursuant to notice, moved for leave to bring in a bill in relation to non-resident highway taxes: leave being granted, Messrs. Bartow, Brown and Stockton, were appointed a committee to bring in a bill.

Mr. Stockton, from the committee on Printing, to whom the subject was referred, reported, that the committee had found in the hands of the binder, 175 copies of the revised laws, yet unbound, and that the binder was ready to complete the binding of the same immediately.

The "bill to dissolve the marriage contract between James Perrine and Harriet Perrine," was read a second time ; and,

On motion of Mr. Drake,

Ordered, That it be engrossed and read a third time on Tuesday. The "bill to dissolve the marriage contract between Reuben Garlick and Martha Garlick,” was read a second time; and, On motion of Mr. Drake,

Ordered, That it be engrossed and read a third time on Wednesday. The "bill for the relief of Lewis Rouse and others, of Green Bay," was read a second time; and,

On motion of Mr Irwin,

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

The bill in addition to an act, entitled "an act to provide for the distribution of the laws of the Territory of Michigan and of the United States," approved April 13, 1827; was read a third time.

On motion of Mr. Irwin, the bill was amended by inserting in the 9th line of the 1st section, after the word "the," the words, "board of;" so as to read, “board of assessors.”

On motion of Mr. Lawrence,

Ordered, That the bill lie on the table.

The resolution to inquire into the expediency of taxing all ardent spirits sold in this territory, having been taken up and again read, was concurred in.

The resolution to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the payment, out of the Territorial treasury, of the interest due on certain Certificates issued by the i iscal Agent of the Council, in pursuance of the act of July 3, 1828, having been taken up and again read, was concurred in.

The following resolutions were submitted, read and severally ordered to lie on the table:

By Mr. Durocher:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of amen ing the law relave to highway taxes, so that the highway tax of any person shall not in any one year exceed twice the amount of such person's county tax. By Mr. Drake:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affers be instructed to inquire into the expediency of provid ng by law for he taking of a census of the inhabitants of the Terri ory east of Lake Michigan, by the Assessors of the several townships, at the time of taking the assessment for the year 1531: And also to provide for ascertaining at the next annual township meetings, whether the majority of the voters of the Territory desire the organisation of a State government, or not.

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the confinement of persons who may hereafter be convicted of crimes or misdemeanors within this Territory, in the Territorial bud.ing called the Jail, and for erecting workshops adjoining said Jail, where such persons may be compelled to labor daily, as a pushment for the crimes which they may have been convicted of. By Mr. M'Douell:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire what amendments are necessary to be made to the act ended an act to raise a sum of money by Lottery, for the parpose of establishing a free communication by land, between the city of Detroit and village of Monroe," with the view of carrying into effect the intentions of said law, or to inquire what other prac treable plan can be devised, for the purpose of removing the obstructions on said road, compatible with the public interest without infringing on private rights; and to report by bill or otherwise.

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of limiting by law, the time which cur several Courts of Record shall hold their sessions; and to inquire what retrenchment can be m de, consistent with the public good, in the expenses attending the said several Courts, particularly in the county of Wayne.

By Mr. Stockton;

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of limiting by law, the compen sation of Supervisors.

By Mr. Irwin:

Resolved, That the committee on Printing be instructed to inquire if any, and what, further provision is required by law ter the more speedy publication in pamphlet form of the Laws and Jour nal, that may be passed at this or any subsequent session of the Legislative Council; and to report by bill or otherwise.

On motion of Mr. M'Donell, the bill in addition, and to amend an act, entitled an act to regulate the assessment and collection of Territorial taxes, was recommitted to the committee who reported said bill.

The resolution submitted by Mr. Drake, to inquire into the expediency of establishing a Territorial Road from Saginaw to the Missionary wharf, near Mackinac, was again read, and concurred in. The Council adjourned to Monday.

MONDAY, June 7, 1850.

The following petitions and papers were presented: By Mr. Schoolcraft: A petition of the holders of certain Certifi cates issued by the Fiscal Agent of the Council, to have provision made for the payment of the interest due thereon.

Ordered, That the petition lie on the table.

By Mr. Irwin: An account of Thomas Knowlton, for services as a Constable at the May term of 1830, of the Supreme Court, with a petition to have the same audited by the proper officer. Referred to the committee on Claims.

By Mr. M'Donell: A petition of O. Whitmore and others, to authorise the application, by the path masters of the respecuve districts, of a part of the road tax, to repairing the Chicago Road between Ypsilanti and Detroit. Referred to the committee on Roads.

The following bills were reported, read the first time and or dered to lie on the table:

By Mr. Stockton, from the committee on Territorial Affairs, A bill amendatory to an act, entitled an act concerning deeds and conveyances.

By Mr. B. row, from the special committee ppointed for that purpose,

A bill in relation to non-resident highway taxes.

By Mr Kingsley, from the committee on eroral Affairs, A bill to amend an act, entided an act to regulere taverns.

By Mr M'Donell, from the committee on Terr torial Affairs,

A bill to revive and amend a certain act there n named, relative to a County Poor-House in the county of Wayne

Mr Fleicher, from the committee on Enrolment, reported as correctly enrolled,

An act to amend an act, entitled an act to prevent gaming.
And the President signed the same.

Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Affairs, to whom had been recommitted,

The "bill in addition and to amend an act, entitled an act amendatory to an act, entitled an act to regulate the assessment and collection of Territorial taxes," reported the same with amendments. The amendments having been read,

On motion,

Ordered, That the bill lie on the table.

The bill for the relief of Matilda Lewis, was read the third time; and,

On motion of Mr M'Donell,

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

The bill for the reitet of Abigail Stead, was read the third time; and,

On motion of Mr. M'Donell,

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

The bill, in addition to an act, entitled an act to provide for the distribution of the laws of the Territory of Michigan and of the United States, approved April 13, 1827, was read the third time. Mr. Stockton moved that the bill pass.

The question being taken, it was decided that the bill do now pass; and that the title thereof be,

"An act," &c.

On motion of Mr. M'Donell,

Ordered, That the "bill to amend an act, entitled an act to prescribe the tenure of office of Auctioneers, and to levy a duty upon sales at auction in certain cases," be recommitted to the committee who reported the same.

Mr. Schoolcraft offered the following resolution:

Resolved by the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan, That the present session of the Legislative Council be adjourn ed until Thursday the first day of July next; then to be held at the Capitol in the City of Detroit.

The resolution was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

M. Schoolcraft offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of amending the act concerning divorces; and that until the committee make report, no further order be taken by the Council on the several petitions and bills in relation to the subject, now pending before the Council.

The resolution was read and ordered to lie on the table.

The resolution relative to legalising tavern licenses granted by the Sheriff, was again read and concurred in.

The resolution to inquire into the necessity of any amendments to the "act to raise a sum of money by Lottery," &c. was again read; and,
