The "bill to provide for laying out certain Territorial Roads and for other purposes," was taken up in committee of the whole. Mr. M Donell moved that the bill be amended by mserung the following as the 7th section thereof:

"SEC. 7. That the per diem allowance to the said Commissioners and their assistants, shall not exceed one day's pay for every miles of the roads which are laid out and established by said Commissioners."

Mr. Lawrence then moved that the bill and the amendment be laid on the table, and the motion was agreed to.

The "bill to declare certain Rivers and their branches navigable for certain purposes," was taken up in committee of the whole.

Mr. Noble moved that the following be inserted as the 6th me, viz: "The River Raisin, from its mouth, up to ;" and the

motion was agreed to.

Mr. Drake moved that the following be inserted as the 8th line, viz: "River St. Joseph, from its mouth, up to ;" and that the following be inserted as the 10th line, viz: "Saginaw River, from its mouth, up to ;" and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. Lawrence then moved that the bill be recommitted to the Committee on Territorial Affairs, and the motion was agreed to.

The "bill to prevent the obstruction of navigable Rivers," was taken up; and, on motion of Mr. Stockton, was recommitted to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

The "bill to amend an act, entitled "an act for the relief of InSolvent Debtors," was taken up; and, on motion of Mr. Noble, was recommitted to the committee on the Judiciary.

The bill supplementary to "an act for the support and maintenance of illegitimate children," approved 12th April, 1827," was taken up in committee of the whole.

Mr. M'Donell moved that the bill be amended by inserting, after the word "mothers," in the 4th line, the words, 66 or mothers of Indian descent ;" and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. Lawrence then moved that the bill be further amended by Striking out all, after the word "within," in the 4th line, and inserting in lieu of the part stricken out, the following, viz: he counties of Brown, Michilimackinac, Crawford, and Chippewa ;" and the motion was agreed to.

The bill was then reported to the Council; and the amendments made thereto in committee of the whole, having been concurred in ;

Mr. Schoolcraft moved that the bill be engrossed and read a third time to-morrow; and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. Stockton presented the petition of Ch. Pelletier, and others, praying for the passage of a law to prevent gatherings, riots and drinking at taverns, on the Sabbath, and to prohiba the sale of liquor by tavern keepers, on days when elections are held. Read and referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. M'Donell presented the petition of Authony Case, and others, inhabitants of the township of Ypsilanti, praying that the north half of said township may be set off and made a separate township by the name of "Superior." Read and referred to the committee on Tericorial Affairs.

Mr. M'Donell presented the account of Jer. Moors, for work done on the Council Chamber. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported,

"A bill to amend an act, entitled "an act concerning the Supreme, Circuit, and County Courts of the Territory of Michan, defining their jurisdiction and powers, and directing the pleadings and practice therein in certam cases," approved April 13, 1847 ?" which was read the first time; and, on motion, said bill was then read the second time and laid on the table.

Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Aflaas, to whom had been recommitted "a bill to declare certam Rivers and their branches navigable for certain purposes," and, a bill to prevent the obstruction of navigable Rivers," reported,
