The "bill to provide for laying out certain Territorial Roads and fo other purposes," was taken up in committee of the whole. Mr. M Donell moved that the bill be amended by inserting the following as the 7th section thereof:

"SEC. 7. That the per diem allowance to the said Commissioners and their assistants, shall not exceed one day's pay for every miles of the roads which are laid out and established by said Commissioners."

Mr. Lawrence then moved that the bill and the amendment be laid on the table, and the motion was agreed to.

the "bill to declare certain Rivers and their branches navigable for certain purposes," was taken up in committee of the whole. Mr. Noble moved that the following be inserted as the 6th line, viz: "The River Raisin, from its mouth, up to

The "bill to prevent the obstruction of navigable Rivers," was taken up; and, on motion of Mr. Stockton, was recommitted to the Committee on Territorial Affairs.

The "bill to amend an act, entitled "an act for the relief of InSolvent Debtors," was taken up; and, on motion of Mr. Noble, was recoinmitted to the committee on the Judiciary.

The bill supplementary to 66 an act for the support and maintenance of illegitimate children," approved 12th April, 1827," was taken up in committee of the whole.

Mr. M'Donell moved that the bill be amended by inserting, after the word "mothers," in the 4th line, the words, "or mothers of Indian descent ;" and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. Lawrence then moved that the bill be further amended by Striking out all, after the word "within," in the 4th line, and inserting in lieu of the part stricken out, the following, viz: The counties of Brown, Michilimackinac, Crawford, and Chippewa ;" and the motion was agreed to.

The bill was then reported to the Council; and the amendments made thereto in committee of the whole, having been concurred in ; Mr. Schoolcraft moved that the bill be engrossed and read a third time to-morrow; and the motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Trowbridge, the Council went into the considearison of Executive business; and having disposed thereof, On motion of Mr. Irwin, the Council then adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, June 11, 1828.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Cadle.

Mr. Stockton presented the petition of Ch. Pelletier, and others, praying for the passage of a law to prevent gatherings, 1iots and drinking at taverns, on the Sabbath, and to prohiba the sale of liquor by tavern keepers, on days when elections are held. Read and referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. M'Donell presented the petition of Authony Case, and others, inhabitants of the township of Ypsilanti, praying that the north half of sand township may be set off and made a separate township by the name of "Superior." Read and referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

Mr. M'Donell presented the account of Jer. Moors, for work done on the Council Chamber. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported,

"A bill to amend an act, entitled "an act concerning the Supreme, Circuit, and County Courts of the Territory of Michigan, defining their jurisdiction and powers, and directing the pleatings and practice therein in certain cases," approved April 13, 1827 ;” which was read the first time; and, ou motion, said bill was then read the second time and laid on the table.

Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Aflaas, to whom had been recommitted "a bill to declare certain Rivers and their branches navigable for eertain purposes," and, " a bill to preveut the obstruction of navigable Rivers," reported,

"A bill to declare certain streams nav rible, or public highways;" which was read the first time; and, on motion, said bill was read the second time, and laid on the table.

The President announced that he yesterday presented to the Goyernor, for his approval and signature, the acts which had that day been reported as correctly eurolled.

The President presented the account of Wm. B. Hunt, for stationery, &c. furnished the last Eegislative Council. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

The bill for the relief of Mahala Fowler," was taken up and read the second time; and, on motion of Mr. Lawrence, the in. ther consideration thereof was postponed until Tuesday next.

Mr. Drake then moved that the bill be further amended by striking out all those parts which relate to the Territorial 11 1 reasury. The motion was agreed to; and the ayes and bays being required by . l'Donell, they were taken as follows:

Mr. Schoolcraft moved to amend said bill by inserting, after the word April," in the 2d section thereof, the following, viz:— "except in the township of Holmes, in the county of Michilmackinac, and in the township of St. Marie, in the county of Chippewa, where the election shall be held on the first Monday of May annually; and the motion was agreed to.

The question on the passage of the bill was then put, and was decided in the affirmative.

So the bill passed.

A message on Executive business was received by the hands of Mr. R. A Forsyth.

Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Affairs, reporten,

"A bill to abolish the County Courts eastward of Lake Michi

gan;" which was read the first time; and, on motion, said bill was read the second time and laid on the table.

The bill amendatory of certain acts relative to the doues and privileges of townships," was taken up, and,

Mr. Lawrence moved that said bill, and the following entitled bills, now on the table, viz:

A bill to amend "an act to regulate highways;"

A bill amendatory of an act entitled "an act to provide for the assessment and collection of county and township taxes ;" and,

A bill amendatory to "an act for defraying the public and neces sary charges in the respective counties in this Territory, and for other purposes;"

Be recommitted to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

The motion was decided in the affirmative; and Mr. Drake re. quiring the ayes and nays, they were taken as follows:

THURSDAY, June 12, 1828.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Cadle.

Mr. Lawrence presented the petition of Th. Palmer, surviving partner of the firm of Friend & Thomas Palmer, praying for autho rity to convey a tract of land, bargained before the death of Friend Palmer., Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Drake presented the petition of Moor Spears, and others, inhabitants of the township of Ypsilanti, praying that the north hdf of said township may be set off and made a separate township. Referred to the committee on Territorial Affairs.

Mr. M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Affairs, reported,

"A bill to adjourn, and regulate the time of holding the County Court for the county of Wayne;" and,

"A bill to amend an act entitled "an act defining the mode of laying out and establishing Territorial Roads.”

And said bills were severally read the first time, and, on motion, they were then read the second time and laid on the table.

Mr. Drake, from the committee of Enrolment, reported, as correctly enrolled, a bill entitled "an act to amend an act, entitled "an act to provide for the election of Coroners and County Treasurers ;" and the President signe the same.

Mr. Irwin, from the committee en Territorial Affairs, reported,

A bill to authorise the licensing of victualling houses, ordinaries, and groceries, within the township of Green Bay.

The engrossed" bill to exempt the Clerks, Officers, and essengers of the Legislative Council from serving on juries and from Mildia duty," was also taken up, read the third time and passed; and the yeas and nays being required by Mr. Drake on the question of its passage, they were taken as follows:

Mr. Brown then moved that the blank in the th line of the 4th section, be filled by inserting the words "five thousand dollars ;" and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. M'Donell moved that the words "two thousand," be inserted in the blank in the last line of the 5th section; and the motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the bill was then amended by striking out the words "several townships of," in the 5th and 6th lines of the 24 secdou.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the bill was further amended by striking out the word "hard," in the 23d line of the 4th section, and the words, "as are not herein granted or supplied," in the 37th line of said section.
