On motion of Mr. Connor, the Council went into the conside sation of Executive business; and having disposed thereof, The Council, on motion of Mr. Irwin, took a recess of two hours. 3 o'clock, P. M.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on Enrolment, reported, as correctly enrolled, a bill, entitled "an act concerning Grand and Petit Jurors;" and the President signed the same.

Mr. M'Donell, from the select committee appointed to prepare "a bill supplementary to, and explanatory of, an act concerting judgments and executions," and "a bill amendatory of an act illowing and regulating writs of replevin," reported bills with the aforesaid tiles; and said bills were severally read the first and second time, and laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Rumsey, the Council adjourned.

FRIDAY, May 30, 1828.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Coston.

Mr. Rumsey presented the petition of Isaac Pratt, and others, inhabitants of the township of Ypsilanti, in the county of Wash.enaw, praying that a new township may be set off from said township of Ypsilanti, and be called Dixborough. head and laid on the table.

Mr. M'Donell presented the account of Parker & luid, for stoves, &c. furnished for the Supreme Court. Referred to the com> mittee on Claims.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on Enrolment, reported, as correctly enrolled, bills with the following udes:

An act for the rehef of Mary C. Yancey."

"An act to provide for holding a special session of the Circuit Court for the county of Crawford."

And the President signed the same.

The President announced that he yesterday presented to the Governor, for his approval and signature, "an act concerning Grand and Petit Jurors."

Mr. Stockton gave notice, that he should, on some future day, ask leave to bring in "a bill to dissolve the marriage contract between Thomas Fowler and Mahala Fowler."

The resolution submitted by Mr. Rumsey on the 19th inst, relative to two sessions of the Circuit Court in the county of Washienaw, was taken up and adopted.

The resolution submitted yesterday by Mr. Irwin, relative to printing certain laws in the French language, was taken up and adopted.

The "bill supplementary to, and explanatory of, au act concerning judgments and executions," was taken up in commitice of die whole; and having been considered, was reported to the Council

Without amendment.

On motion of Mr. Stockton, said bill was then ordered to be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

The bill amendatory of an act allowing and regulating writs of zeplevin," was taken up in committee of the whole; and having been considered, was reported to the Council without amendment. On motion of Mr. Stockton, said bill was then laid on the table, for further consideration.

The bill to prevent Justices of the Peace from keeping taverns, and for other purposes,' was taken up in committee of the whole, and again laid on the table for further consideration.

The "bill to provide a standard for the weight of Grain," was read the second time.

Mr. Stockton then moved that the further consideration of said Bill be postponed until Tuesday next; and the motion was agreed to. The "bill relauve to Mill-Ponds," was taken up, and read the second time; and, on motion, said bill was recommitted to the combee on Territorial Affairs.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the Council adjourned until Monday

next.

MONDAY, June 2, 1828.

A message by Mr. R. A. Forsyth:

Mr. President-The Governor, on the 27th ultimo, approved and .gued 66 an act concerning Grand and Petit Jurors." A message on Executive business was also received by the hands of Mr. Forsyth.

Resoleed, That the committee on Expenditures be instructed to asce, cain, and report to the Council, all the claims which exist, to be paid out of the contingent fund appropriated for the contingent exBases of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan, by an act of Congress, entitled "an act making appropriations for the su port of government for the year one thousand eight hundred and way-eight;" setting out the amount and nature of each claim, under what authority they have been created; and also, how mal will remain of said appropriation, for other purposes, after the claims which exist against said fund.

expediency of appropriating, under the direction of the committee on the Library, the balance of said contingent fund, towards the es tablishment of a Library for the use of the Legislative Council of this Territory.

Mr. Schoolcraft submitted the following resolution, which was laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on the Library be instructed to inquire into the expediency of appointing a Librarian to the Council, to whom shall also be assigned the duties of Keeper of this build. ing; and also to recommend the amount of his compensation.

Mr. Rumsey submitted the following resolution, which was laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of repealing the 3d and 4th sections of the "act regulating Marriages," and limiting the County Clerk's fees for recording marriage certificates to twenty-five cems-and report by bill or otherwise.

On motion of Mr. M'Donell, the Council went into the considera tion of Executive business; and having disposed thereof,

The resolution submitted by Mr. Trowbridge on the 27th ult. relative to preventing tavern keepers from selling or giving Liquor to Indians, &c. was taken up and adopted.

Mr. Noble submitted the following resolution, which was laid on the table:

Resolved, That a committee of three members be appointed to ascertain and report to the Council, what business is necessary to be acted upon during the present session, and when the Council can adjourn.

Mr. Stockton, agreeably to notice given on Friday last, asked leave to bring in 66 a bill to dissolve the marriage contract between Thomas Fowler and Mahala Fowler.”

On motion, leave was given, and,

Messrs. Stockton, M'Donell, and Drake, were appointed a com mittee to prepare said bill.

Mr. Drake submitted the following resolution, which was laid on the table:

Resolved, That the committee on Territorial Affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the act entitled "an act to regulate taverns," as to allow persons to sell cider, beer, or ale, in smaller quantities than one gallon, without licence. On motion of Mr. M'Donell, the Council then adjourned.

TUESDAY, June 3, 1828.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Coston.

Mr. M'Donell presented the account of Lewis Davenport against the Teritory, for erecting an out-house. Reterred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. M'Donell also presented the accounts of Wm. Durel and Lewis Davenport for making furniture, &c. for the Council Chamber Beferred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr. Irwin presented the account of R. S. Rice, for certain services as Cle.k. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr Stockton, from the committee on Territorid Affairs, reported, « A bill to prevent the obstruction of navigable Rivers," and, "A bill to declare certain Rivers navigable;" and,

Me Irwin, from the same committee, reported,

“A bill to provide for laying out certain Territorial Roads, and for other purposes."

Said bills were severally read the first time, and,

On metion of Mr. Stockton, they were then read the second time, laid on the table, and ordered to be printed.

Mr Noble, from the committee of Enrolment, reported as correctly enrolled, the bill entitled "an act to prevent forcible entries and detainers ;" and the President signed the same.

Mr M'Donell, from the committee on Territorial Affairs, to whom had been referred the "bill to provide for the erection of a County Poor House (and for other purposes) in the county of Wayne," reported the same with amendments; and the bill and amendments were bid on the table.

M». M'Denelį gave notice that he should, at a future day, ask leave to bring in a bill to dissolve the bands of matrimony between Will in Johnson and Fanny Johnson.

The resolutions submitted yesterday by Mr. Noble, relative to demands on the contingent fund, and to the establishment of a Library for the use of the Legislative Council, were taken up and adopted.

The resolution submitted yesterday by Mr. Noble, relative to the adjournment and to the business of the Council, was taken up and adopi; and,

Mosers. Noble, Brown, and Stockton, were appointed the com mittee contemplated in said resolution.

The resolution submitted yesterday by Mr. Drake, relative to permitting persons to sell cider, ale, and beer, in quantities less than one gallon, without a licence, was taken up;

Aud Mr Rumsey moved that the resolution be amended, by ling out the words "committee on Territorial Affairs," and insert in hen there of the words, "committee on the Judiciary ;" and the notion was agreed to.

Mr. M'Donell gave notice that he should, on a future day, ask leave to bring in a bill supplementary to an act concerning appeals, and writs of cessionari and babeas corpus.

Said bill was then reported as amended, to the Council; and the amendments having been concurred in, the bill was, on motion of Mr. Irwin, ordered to be engrossed and read a third time to-morrow. A message by Mr. R. A. Forsyth.:

Mr. President-The Governor has this day approved and signed "an act to prevent forcible entries and detainers," an ac to provide for holding a special session of the Circuit Court for the county of Crawford," and "an act for the relief of Mary C. Yancey,"

Mr. M'Donell moved that the Council reconsider the motion for ordering the "bill to provide for the appointment of Masters in Chancery," to be engrossed and read a third time to-morrow; and the motion was agreed to.

Said bill then being before the Council,

Mr. Stockton moved that it be amended by inserting, after the word "districts," in the 3d line of the 2d section, the following, viz : except in the district composed of Wayne county, in which there shall be two Masters in Chancery appointed," and that the rest part of the bill be amended to conform to the provision so inserted; and the motion was agreed to.

Mr. Stockton then moved that the bill be further amended by striking out all after the word "appointed," in the 2d line of the 4th section, to the word "clerk” (including the latter word) in the Oth line of said section; and the motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Irwin,

Said bill was then ordered to be engrossed and read a third time to-morrow.

On motion of Mr. Drake, the Council then adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, June 4, 1828.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Coston.

Mr. Lawrence presented the petition of Oliver Johnson and others, officers of the 2d Reg't of Michigan Militia, praying that the powers of Regimental Courts Martial may be enlarged. Read and referred to the committee on the Militia.

Mr. Noble presented the account of E. D. Ellis, for publishing. Laws, &c. in the Michigan Sentinel, and for printing the Journal of the 2d session of the 2d Council. Referred to the committee on Expenditures.

Mr. Noble, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported,

"A bill to provide for the publication of the acts passed by the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan," which was read the first time and laid on the table.

Mr. Drake, from the committee on the Judiciary, reported,
