At a General Assembly of the State of Illinois, begun and held in the City of Springfield, on Wednesday, the 8th day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three, being the first session of the Twenty-eighth General Assembly, The Hon. JOHN DOUGHERTY, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of Illinois, and President of the Senate, appeared at 12 o'clock, M., took the chair, and called the Senate to order. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Hale. On motion of Mr. Whiting, John M. Adair, of Carroll county, was elected Secretary pro tem. J. A. Cooley was elected Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate pro tem. On motion of Mr. Hampton, The following resolution was adopted: Resolved by the Senate, That a committee of five be appointed by the President to wait on the Governor, and inform him that the Senate has met and organized, and is ready to receive any communication he may see proper to make. The President appointed the following Senators as a committeee to wait on the Governor : Senators Hampton, Whiting, Donahue, Casey and Ware.
