Mr. Byers moved that when the House adjourn it be until 2 o'clock P. M.

Mr. Boysen moved that the House adjourn until 10 A. M., to-morrow.

Mr. Wilson of Keokuk moved to amend by substituting 9 A. M., for 10 A. M.

A division was demanded.

The motion prevailed, and the amendment was adopted by a vote of 45 to 39.

The motion to adjourn as amended prevailed and the House adjourned.

PETITIONS AND MEMORIALS.

Mr. Davis presented petition of citizens of Iowa, asking the enactment of a law prohibiting traveling salesmen soliciting orders for intoxicating liquors.

Referred to committee on Suppression of Intemperance. Mr. Roome presented petition of residents of Winnesheik county, asking the passage of Senate file No. 135.

Referred to committee on Schools and Text Books.

Mr. Lyman presented petition of citizens of Poweshiek county, asking for the establishment of a womens' reformatory. Referred to committee on Penitentiaries.

Mr. Hinkle presented petition of citizens of Wayne county, asking that the word "male" be stricken from the constitution.

Mr. Wilson of Washington presented petition of citizens of Washington county, asking that a law be enacted prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors within five miles of the State university, State Agricultural college and State Normal school. Referred to committee on Suppression of Intemperance.

Mr. Hughes presented petition of citizens of Iowa county, asking for the enactment of a law prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors within five miles of the State university, State Agricultural college and State Normal school.

Mr. Stuckslager, from the committee on Normal Schools, submitted the following report:

MR. SPEAKER-Your committee on Normal Schools, to whom was referred House file No. 91, a bill for an act to establish and equip schools for special instruction and training of teachers for the schools of this state, and to provide for the location of such schools, beg leave to report that they have had the same under consideration and have instructed me to report the same back to the House with the recommendation that the same do pass as amended.

Also, that the substitute bill offered by Warren, a bill for an act to create one additional normal school in the state institution at Knoxville, and to provide for the maintenance, equipment and improvement thereof, be indefinitely postponed.

By Mr. Clarke of Dallas, House file No. 262, a bill for an act to pay sundry persons named in the bill for material and labor in the erection of the medical hospital of the Iowa State university, erected in 1897.

By Mr. Sauer, House file No. 263, a bill for an act to provide for the visitation of reformatory and penal institutions in the state by the judges of the district courts.

By Mr. Cowles, by request, House file No. 264, a bill for an act to amend sections 3124 and 3125 of the code, in reference to the effect of warehouse certificates and protecting the, rights of the holders thereof, and providing a place where registration of void certificates shall be made; amendatory of chapter 10, of title 15 of the code.

By Mr. Cowles, by request, House file No. 265, a bill for an act to amend section 1611 and 1612, relating to corporations for pecuniary benefit and the limit of indebtedness of such corporations, and the place of holding meetings thereof; also, providing and allowing for foreign corporations engaged in banking business to do business within the state of Iowa with out filing copy of its articles of incorporation with the secretary of state as required by section 1637 of the code, amending said section 1637, and entitling such foreign corporations to the processes and rights of maintaining suits in the courts of the . state (amendatory of chapter 1, title 9 of the code).

Senate file No. 156, a bill for an act to amend section 370 of the code, relating to administrators, guardians, trustees and referees depositing funds with clerks of district courts.

Substitute for Senate file No. 43, a bill for an act to amend section 2576 and section 2582 of the code, relating to the examination of persons beginning the practice of medicine, with report of committee recommending passage of substitute, was taken up, considered, and on motion of Mr. Thuenen, the report of the committee adopted.

On request of Mr. Bengston, the bill was read for information.

Mr. Thuenen moved that the rule be suspended and that the bill be considered engrossed and read a third time now, which motion prevailed and the bill was read a third time.
