At a General Assembly of the State of Illinois, begun and held in the eity of Springfield, on Wednesday, the seventh of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, being the first session of the Thirty-fourth General Assembly,

Hon. William J. Campbell, President pro tempore of the Senate of the Thirty-third General Assembly, and acting Lieutenant-Governor of the State, appeared at 12 o'clock, M., and called the Senate to order.

Prayer was offered by the Rev. R. O. Post, of Springfield.

Mr. Ainsworth offered the following resolution and moved its adop

tion:

Resolved, That the following named persons be declared temporary officers of the Senate: Secretary, L. F. Watson, of Iroquois county..

Sergeant-at-Arms, F. A. Freer, of Kane county.

Mr. Duncan offered the following amendment to the foregoing resolution, which was lost:

Amend by striking out all after the word "Senate," and insert in lieu

thereof the following:

Secretary, Wiley E. Jones, of Sangamon county;

First Assistant Secretary, Daniel E. Hughes, of Will county:

Second Assistant S cretary, Daniel Donoghue, of Cook county;

Sergeant-at-Arms, A. E. Barker, of Kane county;

First Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, John Scharlau, of Cook county:

Second Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, T. J. Richardson, of Adams county.

The question then being, "Shall the foregoing resolution be adopted?" it was decided in the affirmative.
