al, in accordance with Sec. 15, Chapter IV, of General Laws. The Lodge shall assemble one hour prior to the time fixed for the burial. The N. G. shall appoint a Marshall and Chaplain, and six or more pall-bearers. The Lodge shall form in proper order, under the direction of the Marshal, and proceed to the late residence of the deceased, and from thence with the corpse, to the place of interment.

SEC. 2. At the close of the burial services, the members shall return in proper order to the Lodge room. The N. G. shall appoint a committee to report at the next regular meeting, a tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. The Secretary shall call the roll of members and note all absentees, and report their names to the Lodge at the next regular meeting.

SEC. 3. The fine hereinafter prescribed, shall be charged against each absentee, unless present and excused, without motion; and said fine must be paid with the dues and assessments, at the end of the term, unless previously excused, and no fine shall be remitted, and no excuse entertained, unless the excuse be offered within the term in which the penalty was incurred, or within the term next ensuing.

ARTICLE VII.

WIDOW AND ORPHAN FUND.

SECTION 1. This Lodge shall, at the first regular meeting in January and July, appropriate five per centum of all moneys received for initation, degrees, fines, dues or cards, for the relief of widows and orphans of deceased members of the Lodge, who, at the time of their death, were in good standing. Said amounts shall be placed in the hands of the Trustees of the Lodge, to be by them invested and disbursed, in accordance with the provisions of Sec. 3, Chapter III, and Sec. 1, Chapter IV, of the General Laws.

ARTICLE VIII.

TRUSTEES.

SECTION 1. The Trustees shall have charge of all real estate belonging to the Lodge, and keep the same in good condition. They shall receive from the Permanent Secretary, after he shall have charged them with the same, the sum appropriated each term for the Widow's and Orphans' Fund. They shall be the custodians of all notes, deeds, mortgages and other accounts pertaining to the Orpan or General Fund, or otherwise belonging to the Lodge.

SEC. 2. All requests for loans from either fund, shall be referred to the Trustees. They shall carefully examine into the sufficiency and nature of all securities tendered for loans applied for; and ascertain from the records of the county, if all real estate offered to be mortgaged, is unincumbered; and shall report the result of their investigation to the Lodge in writing.

SEC. 3. They shall be required, before loaning or investing any funds of the Lodge, to conform to the requirements of Sec. 2, Chapter V, of the General Laws. They shall render a report in writing, of all their transactions, at the last regular meeting in June and December of each year, of the loans and investments made by them, the amount of said loans and the value of the securities held by them therefor, the amount of all notes held by them, the names of the persons owning the same and when said notes are due and payable, of all interest collected and by whom paid. They shall be especially required to collect the interest on all notes and other securities promptly when due. They shall give a joint bond in the

amount of one thousand dollars, with at least two responsible securities, to be approved by the Lodge, for the faithful performance of their duties.

ARTICLE IX.

MEMORIZING CHARGES.

SECTION 1. Every elected and appointed officer shall be expected on their acceptance of any office, and are required, as is also the sitting Past Grand, to memorize the charges of their respective positions within four weeks after their installation, so as to deliver them without the use of books during initiation; and shall also memorize their respective parts of the ceremonies of the opening and closing the Lodge, so as to recite the same, at the proper time without the use of books; and no Charge Books or others relating to the secret work of the Order shall be taken from the Lodge room.

SEC. 2. The N. G. is required to extend the facilities to officers, permitted in his obligation, to enable them to comply with the above requirement within the Lodge Room.

ARTICLE X.

RESIDENCE OF MEMBERS.

SECTION 1. The Secretary shall keep a roll of the name and residence, and number of the house and street, if in the city, of every member of the Lodge.

SEC. 2. Every member removing or changing his residence, shall notify the Secretary thereof within one month after such removal. Should a member change his residence and fail to give notice thereof, and plead failure to receive notice to attend a funeral, or for other purpose, such excuse shall not be valid.

ARTICLE XI.

GENERAL LAWS AND BY-LAWS.

SECTION 1. Every member of the Lodge shall be entitled to one copy of the General Laws, with the By-Laws appended thereto; and for every subsequent copy which he may desire, shall pay to the Secretary therefor the sum of twentyfive cents.

ARTICLE XII.

FINES.

SECTION 1. Any officer or member of committee, or member of the Lodge, who shall have neglected any duty, except absence from funeral, or violated any rule of order, may be fined therefor, on motion, by a majority of the Lodge present; and said fine shall not be remitted unless a satisfactory excuse be rendered within the term said penalty was incurred, and the excuse approved by two-thirds of the members present, by open vote.

SEC. 2. No member can be fined or otherwise punished for a violation of the By-Laws not committed in open Lodge, or of which the Lodge had not direct knowledge, without charges being regularly preferred against him for such violation.

ARTICLE XIII.

OFFENSES AND PENALTIES.

SECTION 1. Any member of this Lodge who shall be guilty of gross immoral conduct of any kind; of defrauding or attempting to defraud this or any other

Lodge of the Order; of defrauding a brother or any other person; of withholding any money, books, or property belonging to the Lodge, when properly demanded of him; of drunkenness; of abandoning his wife or family; of any felonious offense against the laws of the land; of any violation of his obligations as an Odd Fellow; shall, upon conviction thereof, be expelled, suspended for a definite period, fined, or reprimanded, as two-thirds of the members present at a regular meeting of the Lodge, by ballot vote, may determine.

SEC. 2. Every elected or appointed officer failing to attend the Lodge at the time prescribed in Article I, Section 1, of these By-Laws, shall be fined not less than twenty-five cents nor more than one dollar.

SEC. 3. The officers whose duty it is to confer the Degrees failing to attend any meeting for that purpose, if they have had notice of the same, shall be fined not less than twenty-five cents nor more than one dollar.

SEC. 4. When any member who shall use profane or indecent language, and is required, on motion, by a majority of the members present by open vote, to leave the room, as required in Section 14, Chapter XI, of General Laws, and refuses so to do, he shall be charged with contumacy, and on conviction thereof, after due trial, he shall be expelled.

SEC. 5. No motion for other penalties than those prescribed in Chapter XI, of the General Laws, for the several offenses therein named, shall be admissible.

SEC. 6. Any officer neglecting to bring or send the key of any chest, drawer, or apartment entrusted to his care, thereby detaining the business of the Lodge, shall be fined one dollar for each offense.

SEC. 7. Either of the Committee of Relief failing to attend to the duties required of them in Section 9, Chapter IV of the General Laws, and Sections 1 and 2 of Article V of the By-Laws, shall be subject to a fine of not less than one dollar for each offense.

SEC. 8. Any member failing to watch with the sick or dead, when notified so to do, though he may not have been notified in the order in which his name appears on the Roll Book-those whose names precede his own having refused-shall be subject to a fine of not less than one dollar.

SEC. 9. The fine for non-attendance at the funeral of a member or sojourning brother shall be one dollar, as prescribed in Section 15, Chapter IV of the General Laws.

SEC. 10. The Trustees, or any of them, failing to perform any of the duties required of them in Section 3, Chapter III, and Chapter V of the General Laws, and Article VIII of the By-Laws, shall be subject to a fine each of not less than one dollar for each offense.

SEC. 11. Every officer failing to memorize the charge, or parts of the ceremonies pertaining to his office, as prescribed in Section 1, Article IX, of the ByLaws, shall be subject to a fine of twenty-five cents for each week that such failure continues.

SEC. 12. The Permanent Secretary failing to forward the Reports of the Lodge and the percentage, and all other indebtedness, to the Grand Secretary, before or immediately after the first meeting of a term, shall be fined not less than fifty cents nor more than two dollars, as a majority of the Lodge may determine.

SEC. 13. Any member knowing any brother to be sick, and failing to give notice thereof to the N. G., or to some one of the Committee of Relief, or to the Lodge, at the first regular meeting after he is in possession of the fact, as required in Section 8, Chapter XV of General Laws, shall be fined one dollar.

ARTICLE XIV.

AMENDMENTS.

SECTION 1. Any proposition to alter, amend, or repeal the foregoing By-Laws, or any portion thereof, must be made in writing, at a regular meeting of the Lodge; and shall lie upon the table until the next regular meeting thereafter, before being acted upon, and shall be adopted only by a vote of the majority of the members present.

SEC. 2. No amendment or alteration of these By-Laws, which shall in any wise contravene any part of the General Laws, or the principles and usages of the Order, shall be entertained.

RULES OF ORDER.

The Noble Grand shall preserve order and pronounce the decision of the Lodge on all subjects; he shall decide questions of order, subject to an appeal to the Lodge by any two members. The Noble Grand may have precedence in speaking to points of order. No member shall speak but once on such appeal. The question shall be taken by the Vice Grand as follows: "Shall the decision of the Noble Grand stand as the judgment of the Lodge?"

2. If the Noble Grand doubt the result of any vote, or a division be called for, the Lodge shall divide, those in the affirmative first rising and being counted, and afterwards those in the negative.
