A committee of conference was appointed on the part of the Senate, to confer with a like committee on the part of the House upon Senate concurrent resolution No. 2.

Senators Akin, Grover and Horne were appointed such com mittee.

On motion of Senator Legate,

The Senate went into Committee of the Whole for the consid eration of Senate bill No. 4, "An act to declare M. O. Murphy, a minor, of lawful age,

Senator Legate in the chair.

After some time spent therein, the committee rose and through their chairman reported back Senate bill No. 4, and recommended its passage.

Senator Legate moved that the rules be suspended, and that Senate bill No. 4 be considered engrossed and read a third time

now.

And the question being on the suspension of the rules,

The yeas and nays were demanded and had with the following result:

Yeas, 18; nays, 0.

Gentlemen voting in the affirmative were

Senators Akin, Drenning, Eskridge, Gambell, Grover, Horne, Houston, Jones, Legate, Manning, Milhoan, Quigg, Riggs, Speer, Smith, Twiss, Weer and Wheeler.

And so the rules were suspended, and Senate bill No. 4 was Read a third time,

And the question being, Shall the bill pass?

The yeas and nays were had with the following result:

Yeas, 18; nays, 0.

Gentlemen voting in the affirmative were

Senator Houston introduced Senate bill No. 21, fan act entitled "An act to amend ‘An act to authorize counties and cities to issue bonds to railroad companies,' approved February 10, 1865."

Read a first time.

Senator Houston introduced Senate bill No. 22, "An act to provide for the sale of lands belonging to the State Agricultural College and to defray the current expenses thereof."

Read a first time.

Senator Horne offered the following resolution. which was adopted:

Resolved, That Gen. Geo. W. Deitzler be invited to a seat within the bar of the Senate.

Senator Akin, by consent, introduced Senate bill No. 23, "An act to define the duties of justices of the peace in criminal cases." Read a first time.

On motion, the Senate adjourned.

Journal of yesterday read and approved.

Senator Gambell, chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, made the following reports:

MR. PRESIDENT-Your committee have had under consideration Senate joint resolution No. 1, donating certain reports to the Leavenworth Law Library Association, and instruct me to report the same back and recommend its passage, with the following amendments: Add to section one the following proviso: "And provided further, that in case any or all of the volumes of said reports remaining in the State Library shall become lost or destroyed, the same shall be replaced with the corresponding volumes hereby donated."

MR. PRESIDENT-Your committee have also had under considerrtion Senate joint resolution No. 2, to amend section 13, of article 3, of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, and instruct me to report the same back and recommend its passage with the following amendment: Insert after the words "United States," in section 1, the following: "During the term of office for which said justices and judges shall be elected."

Mr. Akin, chairman of the committee of conference on resolutions in reference to newspapers, made the following report:

MR. PRESIDENT-Your committee, to whom was referred the newspaper subject, would respectfully report in favor of the proposition of Messrs. Speer & Ross to furnish copies of the Daily Tribune to each member and officer of both Houses for the session, at the price of one dollar per copy, and ten copies to each member of all laws passed by the Legislature, and published in the Tribune, bound in pamphlet form, within ten days after the Legislature has adjourned. The said paper to be of the full size of the Daily Topeka State Record. All of which is respectfully submitted. E. L. AKIN,
