This being the day fixed by the Constitution of the State for the meeting of the Legislature, the Senate of the State was called to order at 12 o'clock, M., by Lieut. Governor McGrew, who is, by virtue of his office, President of the Senate.

On motion of Senator Houston,

C. V. Eskridge, of Lyon county, was chosen as Secretary pro

tem.

The roll being called, the following Senators answered to their

names:

Messrs. Akin, Anderson, Bartlett, Emmert, Eskridge, Gambell, Grover, Horne, Houston, Jones, Legate, Manning, Miller, Milhoan, Quigg, Riggs, Spear, Twiss and Wheeler.

Absent-Messrs. Barber, Drenning, Foote, Potter, Smith and

Weer.

The following vacancies having been reported by the Secretary of State:
