Here we recall the blood which trickled down as Jesus hung on the cross, and the sweat which was mingled with it through His great agony.

"Do this," means not only "do," but "offer this," and in so doing the priest makes a memorial of Christ's sacrifice. Now it is finished, and Christ is, as it were, hanging for men to gaze on.

The choir and congregation therefore sing the Agnus Dei, as followeth,

O LAMB OF GOD, THAT TAKEST

AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD: HAVE MERCY UPON US.

O LAMB OF GOD, THAT TAKEST

AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD: HAVE MERCY UPON US.

O LAMB OF GOD, THAT TAKEST

AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD: GRANT US THY PEACE.

or some hymn of the same meaning.

After Christ is thus, as it were, exposed to our view on the cross, the priest takes the blessed Sacrament from the altar, like as Christ was taken from the cross.

Likewise after supper he (d) took the Cup; and, when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of this; for this (e) is my BLOOD of the New Testament, which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me. Amen.

¶Then shall the Minister first receive the Communion in both kinds himself,

He then delivers the Sacrament to those he has pronounced as made just in the absolution given them for Christ's sake.

Here we are reminded of Christ's body being given to Joseph of Arimathea, who was a good man and a just one; to be buried in his own new tomb; like as those who now communicate were made clean new tombs by the absolution given by the priest.

and then proceed to deliver the same to the Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, in like manner, (if any be present,) and after that to the people also in order, into their hands, all meekly kneeling. And, when he delivereth the Bread to any one, he shall say,

THE

HE Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for thee, and feed on him in thy heart by faith with thanksgiving.
