A Prayer for the Household.

WE beseech thee, of thy goodness, O Lord, and for our Saviour's sake, to bestow upon this family the blessings of the gospel of peace. Enable those who rule, to do so in the fear of the Lord, with all forbearance and gentleness, knowing that they also have a master in heaven. Teach those who serve, to act not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but with good will, as to the Lord, and not to men, shewing all fidelity. May each member of this family

be endued with thy holy Spirit, and be brought under the influence of the Gospel of Christ. Let all anger, and wrath, and clamour, and evil-speaking, be put away from us; and let the service of love prevail over that of rigour or fear. May the peace of God rule in all our hearts and may we enjoy and exhibit the blessedness of them who dwell together in unity. So that, walking together in unity of spirit and in the bond of peace, we may be found continually a household fearing thee and working righteousness. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.
