After the Lord's Supper.

BLESS us, we beseech thee, O our God and Father, who have this day been partakers of the emblems of our Saviour's love. For our enjoyment in that spiritual feast, to thee be all the praise. We have presented unto thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and lively sacrifice. We have dedicated ourselves anew to thy service. We have pledged ourselves to follow thee in holiness and righteousness, all the days of our lives. We have professed ourselves to be the followers of a crucified Saviour. Thy vows, O Lord, are upon us. Confirm, we beseech thee, our self-dedication made this day. Give us thy Holy Spirit to help our infirmities; and enable us to bring our intentions to good effect. As we have received Christ Jesus the Lord, teach us so to walk in him. May we never withdraw those hearts, which we have this day

solemnly dedicated to thee. And take not thou thy Holy Spirit from us. Having tasted the heavenly gift, may we hunger more and more after righteousness; until we eat and drink with thee in thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

Before receiving the Lord's Supper for the
first time.

MOST gracious and merciful Lord, and heavenly Father, who givest power to the faint, and increasest strength to them that have no might;" and who hast ordained thy Supper, of which I am about to partake, to be a means for strengthening and refreshing the soul: vouchsafe to regard me with thy favour; encompass me with thy protection, that the enemy of souls may not prevail to hinder my blessing, or to hide thy glory from me. Suffer me not to presume on thy promises, by approaching thy table unworthily: nor let me

despair of thy goodness, because of my manifold offences. May I come in deep humility and self-abasement, yet with a full assurance of thy love; and in steadfast faith in the merits and mediation of my adorable Saviour. And may the blessing, which thou hast prepared for them that wait upon thee in thy Son's name, be mine. Lord, increase my faith. Give me a more ardent love to thee; and a more earnest desire for thy glory. And make this, my first approach to thy table, an abiding blessing to my soul; for my dear Redeemer's sake. Amen.

To be used by Husband and Wife together. MOST merciful God and heavenly Father, who hast instituted marriage for the mutual society, help, and comfort of those united in its bonds; We bless thee that thou hast permitted us to be united together as man and wife. May the bonds of thy love unite us to each other and to thee.

May thy blessing rest upon us in the discharge of all our duties. May we be, in all things, helpers together of each other's faith. May we seek continually each other's good for edification. Make us a blessing to each other, and to all around us. And may we so dwell together in godly love, bearing each other's burdens, strengthening each other's graces, and diffusing around us the blessings of love and peace; that, having fought together the good fight of faith, and having continued heirs together of the grace of life to our lives' end, we may serve and praise thee for ever in thy kingdom of glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

For Guidance in the Training of Children. O LORD, who hast given us children, to be brought up for thee: We desire to feel and to confess our entire dependence on thee for strength and ability to train them up in the way they should go. Give us

grace to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. May no worldly allurements ever induce us to lose sight of their spiritual interests; or to prefer for them the things of time to the things of eternity. Grant us wisdom, that we may know how to instruct them: patience, that we may rightly correct them: love and meekness, that we may exhibit thy Spirit unto them. And never suffer us to put our trust in anything we can do for them. May an abiding sense of the need of thy Spirit's influences accompany our efforts for their good. And bless thou, O Lord, the work of our hands upon us; prosper our feeble efforts to promote thy glory in them and so crown our labours with success, that they may grow up as plants of thine own planting, and continue thine for ever; for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.
