THE poems of Mr. Bryant, collected by him during his lifetime, are here given as he left them, with the exception that they are arranged according to the dates at which they were written or printed, as far as these dates, now attached to the poems, could be ascertained, and that the translations are put together under the same heading. Some twenty hymns which Mr. Bryant printed in a small volume, but did not publish, together with a few not contained in that volume, are included in this edition. To these are added several poems and translations, which Mr. Bryant sent from time to time to various periodicals, but which he had not yet included in any volume; and a few pieces never before published.
