PREFACE. THIS book is intended as a successor to the Cases on Private Corporations, published by Judge Jeremiah Smith, the first edition of which appeared in 1897, and the second in 1902. With the abounding generosity characteristic of him, Judge Smith has allowed me to make any use I pleased of the matter contained in his book, and a large number of the cases in his book are here reproduced.
