Managers' and Advisory Committees' Notiez.

THE Institution for which this Volume is published has now been in active operation over two years, having been organized by a number of prominent ladies, (upon the occasion of a visit of Gen. Anderson at the Institution of the Young Deaf Mutes of this city,) among whom were the following:-Mrs. Little, Mrs. Rev. Hardenburg, Miss H. Sherman, Mrs. J. Thompson, Miss F. M. Hoyt, Mrs. S. P. Mather, Mrs. Olive M. Devoe, and Mrs. David Hoyt. This Organization was perfected May 20, 1861, and after having been in actual operation for one year, the State Legislature, in consideration of the benevolent purpose for which it was organized, and the great public and private good wrought by its operations, granted it a Charter, April 22d, 1862; since which time it has given such unmistakable evidence of its efficiency, that we can without the slightest hesitation, come before the public in this, or any other guise, which may promise to forward the good work before us-viz., that of educating and maintaining the little orphans entrusted to our care, by those noble Volunteers, who have fallen, or yet may fall in the defence of the Union; and to forward this object, this Volume-which it is but proper here to remark is the gift of Mr. HAYWARD to the "Union Home and School,"-is now issued exclusively for the benefit of said Institution so long as it shall remain in existence, with the ultimate design of founding by this means a Building Fund, with which to erect a suitable edifice wherein the little orphans of our heroes may be properly cared for until they have reached their maturity.

The purpose for which the volume is issued, is certainly the most exalted and beneficial that can actuate us, and is well worthy of all the care and trouble we can bestow upon it; and in consequence, if properly aided and sustained in our endeavor, we feel confident of entire success, and a great work of benevolence and patriotism will thereby be accomplished. Respectfully submitted:
