The visitor intending to remain only a few hours in the town should restrict his attention to three objects of interest

I. THE BIRTHPLACE.

2. NEW PLAce.

3. THE CHURch.

The Birthplace and the Museum, in the same building, are the first and chief objects of attraction.

Upon leaving these, the visitor will notice in High Street, on the right-hand side, a remarkable house, erected in the year 1597, which is distinguished by some fine wood carving and which is one of the very few buildings remaining in the same state in which they existed in the time of Shakespeare.

At the corner of the next street, on the left-hand side, is the Town Hall. Beyond this, on the same side, is New Place, the spot where Shakespeare resided many years, and where he died at an untimely age in the year 1616.

The next building on the same side of the way is the Guild Chapel, a fine example of the architecture of Henry the Seventh's time. Adjoining this are the Grammar Schools where the Poet was educated. Following this road (Church Street), and taking the first turning to the left, a short walk brings the visitor to the Church,
