At 20 minutes past 8 o'clock, the House again resumed business. The House then resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bills entitled as follows:

"An act to authorize the establishment of a female department to the Western House of Refuge for Juvenile Delinquents."

"An act relative to certain negotiable corporate bonds and obligations."

"An act to amend the statutes in reference to the collection of taxes in the State of New York."

And after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Watt, from said committee, reported in favor of the passage of said first and second mentioned bills, the first with an amendment; which report was agreed to, and said bills ordered engrossed and to a third reading.

Mr. Watt, from said committee, also reported progress on said third mentioned bill, and asked leave to sit again.

The question being on granting leave,

On motion of Mr. Fort, the committee of the whole was discharged from the further consideration of said bill, and the same was ordered engrossed and to a third reading.

Mr. Rose presented the report of the sub-committee of the whole; which was laid on the table and ordered printed.

Mr. Rose called from the table the report of the sub-committee of the whole, in the words following:

Senate, "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act relative to contracts for advertisements in newspapers published on Sunday,' passed April 25, 1872." [Reported adversely thereto.]

Senate, "An act in relation to the Marine Court of the city of New York."

Senate, "An act to alter, open and improve the canal in and along the west branch of Newtown creek, within the city of Brooklyn, to construct a bridge over the same, and to alter the commissioners' map of the town of Bushwick in relation thereto."

"An act authorizing the settlement of the claim of the commissioners appointed by virtue of an act passed May 23, 1871, providing for the laying out, opening and construction of a public highway in the town Hempstead, Queens county." [With amendments.

"An act to amend chapter 251 of the Laws of 1866, entitled 'An act for the preservation of fish in Kinkerhook lake, and waters adjacent thereto."" [With an amendment.]

"An act relative to local improve

in the city of Brooklyn and to amend an act entitled 'An act to restrict the power of the city of Brooklyn to issue bonds or loau its credit for local improvements."

"An act to amend chapter 934 of the Laws of 1871, entitled 'An act in reference to apprentices and employes.'
