SENATE CHAMBER IN THE CITY OF ALBANY WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 1927

Pursuant to the sixth section of the tenth article of the Constitution of the State of New York, designating the first Wednesday in January in each year for the time of the meeting of the Legislature, the Senate convened. Hon. Edwin Corning, Lieutenant-Governor presiding.

We, the Secretary of State, Comptroller, Treasurer, AttorneyGeneral and State Engineer and Surveyor of the State of New York, constituting the State Board of Canvassers, having canvassed and estimated the whole number of votes given for the office of State Senator in the several Senate districts as enumerated, at the general election held in said State on the second day of November, 1926, according to the certified statements of the said votes received by the Secretary of State, in the manner directed by law, do hereby determine, declare and certify, that for the

The President addressed the Senate in the words following: "The people of the State of New York have greatly honored me in choosing me to preside over this great, august body. My only method of showing my appreciation of what they have done for

me will be in making a good presiding officer. With the help of you gentlemen I hope to do so."

The Clerk will call the roll to ascertain the presence of a quorum. The following Senators responded as their names were called:

Mr. Thayer offered a resolution, in the words following: Resolved, That Ernest A. Fay be, and he hereby is, elected Clerk of the Senate for the years 1927 and 1928.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

Mr. Campbell offered a resolution, in the words following: Resolved, That C. R. Hotaling be, and he hereby is, elected sergeant-at-arms of the Senate for the year 1927.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Gates offered a resolution, in the words following: Resolved, That Henry Whitbeck be, and he hereby is, elected assistant sergeant-at-arms of the Senate for the year 1927.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Baumes offered a resolution, in the words following: Resolved, That Lee V. Gardner be, and he hereby is, elected principal doorkeeper of the Senate for the year 1927.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree. to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative. Mr. Brown offered a resolution, in the words following: Resolved, That Gersham Banker be, and he hereby is, elected first assistant doorkeeper of the Senate for the year 1927.
