Chap. 2.

AN ACT to provide for a donation of a block of stone to the National Washington Monument.

The People of the State of New York, represented in
Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. The governor is authorized to procure a block of stone from some quarry in the state of New York, of suitable size, and to have the same properly prepared, and the name and coat of arms of the state sculptured thereon, and forwarded at the expense of the state, to be placed in and constitute a portion of the National Washington Monument, now in progress of erection in the city of Washington.

§ 2. The treasurer shall pay, on the warrant of the comptroller, out of any moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, such sum as the governor shall certify to be required for the purposes of this act, not exceeding the sum of two thousand dollars.

§3. This act shall take effect immediately.

Chap. 3.

AN ACT to authorize the holding of a county court and court of sessions in the county of Schoharie.

Passed January 31, 1850.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Courts to be § 1. A county court and court of sessions, with a grand and petit jury, shall be held at the court-house in and for the county of Schoharie, on the first Monday of march next.

Organization

§ 2. Such court shall be organized in the manner now and powers. prescribed by law, and shall have the usual powers of county courts and courts of sessions; and the grand and petit juries shall be drawn in the same manner as grand and petit juries are required to be drawn to attend a court of oyer and terminer.

§ 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

Chap. 4.

AN ACT authorizing the supervisors of Dutchess county to remove the poor-house of said county.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. The board of supervisors of the county of Dutchess Poor-house are hereby authorized to cause to be removed the poor-house moved. building in said county, to a more central location than now situated, and take all necessary action in relation thereto, at any annual or special meeting.

§2. This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT farther to amend the charter of the Attica and
Hornellsville Rail road Company, passed May 14, 1845.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. The time specified in the second section of chapter Time exthree hundred and thirty-six of the session laws of the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-five, within which the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars is required to be expended by the Attica and Hornellsville Railroad Company in the construction of its road, is hereby further extended for one year from the time of the passage of this act; and the time specified in said second section of said act, within which said corporation shall finish the said road, and put the same in operation, is hereby extended to the fourteenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.

Chap. 6.

AN ACT to extend the time for the collection of taxes.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do Exception. § 1. If any collector of taxes, in any of the cities or towns of this state, except the cities of New York, Brooklyn, Albany, and Troy, shall, within the time now provided by law, pay over all moneys by him collected, and shall, within ten days thereafter, renew his bond to the satisfaction, in towns, of the supervisor of such town, or, in his absence or disability, of the town clerk; and in any city, in the manner in which collector's bonds are now approved, to be expressed in writing upon such bond, and which bond shall be filed, and have the effect of a collector's bond, as proBonds to be vided by law; and shall also, within the time aforesaid, deliver to the county treasurer of his county a certificate of the approval of such bond, signed by the officers making such approval, then the time for collecting the taxes, and making the returns thereof, shall be extended to the first day of March next.

Chap. 7.

AN ACT to amend "An act establishing free schools throughout the state," passed March 26, 1849.

Passed January 31, 1850, "three-fifths being present." The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly do enact as follows:

§ 1. The eighth section of the act entitled "An act establishing free schools throughout the state," is hereby amended, by inserting after the word "cities," the words "or villages," so that the said eighth section shall read, "All laws and parts of laws inconsistent with the provisions of this act, other than those relating to free shools in any cities or villages in this state, are hereby repealed."

§ 2. All the acts of boards of education, or trusees of school districts, or of commissioners, and all other officers of school

districts in villages where free schools were established prior to the passage and approval of the act to amend the "Act establishing free schools throughout the state," passed March 26, 1849, are hereby declared as valid and effectual as if the said act establishing free schools throughout the state had not been passed.

§ 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

Chap. 8.

AN ACT to authorize the Exchange Bank of Genesee to change its place of business.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

The banking association, known as "The Exchange Place of Bank of Genesee," may change its place of business from changed. the village of Alexander in the county of Genesee, to the village of Batavia in said county, on making and filing a certificate specifying such change in the clerk's office of Certificate the county aforesaid, and in the office of the secretary of to be filed. state; such certificate to be duly executed, and the execution acknowledged by the directors of such association, at the time when the change shall be made.
