PRE FACE.

The first volume of Sprague's Decisions was published in 1861. In the early part of 1865, Judge Sprague retired from the Bench. This volume includes the most important of the decisions rendered by him subsequently to the publication of the first volume of his decisions, and some of a prior date. All of them now appear with the sanction of Judge Sprague. The prize cases were prepared for publication by the Hon. Richard H. Dana, Jr. The foot-notes were made by me as editor, and the work has been published under my supervision.
