Mr. Roman, from the committee to which was referred a bill for "An act to change the name of St. Clair Green, of St. Clair county," reported the same back, and recommended its passage.

Mr. Kelsey, on leave, offered the following resolution:

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the secretary of state be requested to furnish each member of the present House of Representatives with one copy of the Illinois Statutes, recently revised by the Hon. N. H. Purple, of Peoria, and that the same be paid for out of the contingent fund.

Mr. Sloan moved to refer the resolution to the committee on the judiciary. Lost.

The question being, "Shall the resolution pass?"

Mr. Blades offered, as an amendment, to strike out all after the word "resolved," and insert, "that the committee on the judiciary be and it is hereby requested to examine and report upon the Revised Statutes, by Hon. N. H. Purple, with a view to the propriety of subscribing for a sufficient number of copies for the use of members of the General Assembly, and for the use of the various officers of

this state."

Mr. Moulton moved to lay the amendment upon the table.

The question being, "Shall the amendment be laid upon the table?"

Mr. Preston offered the following additional resolution:

Resolved, That each member will return to the state library, the work, after the expiration of the session. Lost.

The question being, "Shall the original resolution pass?"

Mr. Roman moved to amend by striking out "General Assembly" and inserting "House of Representatives." Adopted.

The resolution, as amended, was then adopted.

Mr. Smith offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the door-keeper of the House of Representatives be required. to procure and keep in the hall of the House of Representatives, during the present session, a complete set of the statutes of the state, the reports of the decisions of the supreme court of the state and the journal of the Senate and House of Representatives, for the convenience of the members of this House. Which was laid on the table.

Mr. Lawrence offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the use of this hall be granted for this evening to the State Agricultural Society. Adopted.

Mr. Roman offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the committee on banks and corporations be and are hereby authorized to employ a clerk.

Which was laid on the table.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Wyatt, assistant secretary:

Mr. Speaker: I am directed to inform the House of Representatives that the Senate has concurred with them in the passage of a House bill, with the following title:

"An act coling to the United States of America jurisdiction over certain lands and the app tenaces, in the city of Galera, and for other purposes therein mei tioned."

M. Erwin offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the committee on state roads be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the law up on that sul ject as to give commissioners of highways jurisdiction over state roids, and that they report by bill or other

wise.

The Speaker laid before the House a communication, which he had on his table, from the supe intendent of the Deaf and Dumb Asylum, at Jacksonville, together with the accompanying reports.

Mr. Epler offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the sixth biennial report of the trustees and principal of the Illinois Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb be laid upon the table, and 5000 copies of the same le ordered to be printed-2000 for the use of the House and 3000 for the use of the institution. Adopted.

On motion,

The House joint resolution, ordering fifteen daily papers for the use of the members of the General Assembly, sent back from the Senate amended, (strike out 15 and ins. rt 25.)

The question. being on concurring with the Senate's amendment, the House refused to concur.

On motion of Mr. Preston,

The House adjourned until 2 o'clock P. M.

TWO O'CLOCK P. M.

House met, pursuant to adjournment.

Mr. Boal presented the certificate of election of John T. Lindsey, a representative elect from the county of Peoria, who appeared at the stand, when the oath was a Iministered by the Hon. O. C. Skinner, one of the judges of the supreme court of this state, and took his seat as a member of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Arnold offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the clerk inform the Senate that the House is now ready to receive them in joina session, for the purpose of counting and canvassing the votes for governor and lieutenant governor. Adopted.

The Senate, preceded by the Hon. Gustavus Koerner, their speaker, appeared in the hall of the House of Representatives and took seats assigned them.

Whereupon, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in accordance with the provisions of th constitution, proceeded, in the presence of a majority of each house of the General Assembly, to open the returns and publish the votes given at the lat general clection in the different counties of this state for governor and flew nant governor of the same; when it appeared, that

William H. Bissell, of the county of St. Clair, had received one hundred and cleven thousa,d three hundred and seventy-two votes.

William A. Richardson, of the county of Adams, had received one hundred and six thousand six hundred and forty-three votes.

Buckner S. Morris, had received nineteen thousand two hundred and forty

one votes.

John Wood, of the county of Adams, had received one hundred and ten thousand five hundred and eighty-four votes.

Richard J. Hamilton, had received one hundred and six thousand two hundred and ninety-seven votes.

Parmenas Bond, had received eighteen thousand two hundred and forty-five

votes.

Whereupon, the Speaker of the House of Representatives declared William H. Bissell to be duly elected governor of the state of Illinois, for four years, from and after Monday next.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives also declared John Wood to be duly elected lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois, for four years, from and after Monday next.

The Senate then withdrew.

Mr. Arnold offered the following resolution:

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring herein, That a joint committee be appointed, consisting of three from the House and two from the Senate, to wait upon the governor and lieutenant governor elect, and inform them of their election, and ascertain at what hour on Monday next they will meet the two houses in the hall of the House of Representatives for the purpose of being sworn into office. Adopted.

Mr. Epler moved to take up resolution in reference to the Deaf and Dumb Asylum at Jacksonville, and refer the same to the committee on finance. Which reference was made.

Mr. Logan, on leave, introduced a bill for "An act giving the judges of the supreme court power to appoint librarians for the law libraries, and to regulate compensation;" which was read a first time, and

Ordered to a second reading.

On motion of Mr. Logan,

The rule was suspended, the bill read a second time, by its title, and
Referred to the committee on the judiciary.

Mr. Frisbie introduced a bill for "An act for the relief of the Methodist Episcopal church of Abingdon, in Knox county;" which was read a first time, and

Ordered to a second reading.

Mr. Wyche introduced a bill for "An act to establish the nineteenth judicial circuit;" which was read a first time, and
