Veterans' Home, Waupaca

Commandant Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, Buffalo,

Johnson County, Wyo.

Requirements for admission.

The requirements for admission to the State homes are regulated by each State and are so varied that no attempt is made to give here the requirements for each home.

It may be stated, however, that a residence in the State of from six months to five years is generally required.

Many of the States admit wives, widows, and mothers of soldiers, under certain conditions, such as age, dependence, date of marriage, etc.

Widows or wives of ex-soldiers or sailors should make application to the commanding officer of the State soldiers' home in the State in which they reside. Applicants can always secure the information as to where the State homes are located and the requirements for admission by applying to the State board of charities in the capital of the State in which they reside.

THE TEMPORARY HOME FOR UNION EX-SOLDIERS AND SAILORS, WASHINGTON, D. C.

Requirements for admission.

No ex-Union soldier or sailor shall be admitted to the home who has not an honorable discharge from either the Army or Navy or can give other satisfactory evidence of his service.

No inmate shall be allowed to remain in the home for a longer period than 10 days, except in cases of sickness and of those detailed without compensation for work, and then only upon the recommendation of the superintendent, approved by the president of the board.

Inmates of volunteer homes shall not be admitted, except temporarily while passing through the city, and then not for more than 24 hours, except in cases of sickness or extreme want.

No ex-Union soldier or sailor or Spanish War veteran who is entitled to admission to a volunteer home shall be permitted to remain in this home if he refuses or neglects, upon the request of the president of the board, to make application for admission to a volunteer home. Nor shall one who has been discharged from a volunteer home for misconduct be admitted to this home, unless such admission is specially authorized by the president of the board. Nor shall any ex-Union soldier or sailor or Spanish War veteran be admitted to this home more than once in any year, unless upon special permission by the president of the board. * * *

A wife or widow is not eligible to this home.
