On motion of Mr. White, of Florida,

Resolved, That the Committee on Commerce be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing for the erection of a light-house at the most suitable site at the eastern entrance into Appalachicola bay, and another at the pass into the bay of Mexico, at Egmont Island, on the coast of Florida.

On motion of Mr. White, of Florida,

Resolved, That the Committee on Commerce be instructed to inquire into the expediency of making an appropriation to improve the harbor of St. Augustine, in Florida, according to the report of the engineer who made the survey, in obedience to an act of Congress.

On motion of Mr. White, of Florida, Resolved, That the Committee on Commerce be instructed to enquire into the expediency of making an appropriation for placing buoys in St. Mark's harbor, and two beacons on the east and west shoals, and buoys in the east pass into Appalachicola bay, in Florida.

Mr. Sevier presented the petition of Thomas Parker Eskridge, of Arkansas, praying to be refunded the sum of $4,750 45 cents, with interest at the rate of six per cent. which he paid for lands in the Batesville land district, and at Helena, in the Mississippi land district.

Mr. Ingersoll presented the memorial of the Insurance Company of the State of Pennsylvania, relative to an insurance on the brig Josephine.

Mr. Ingersoll presented the petition of Margaret C. Meade, of the State of Pennsylvania, relative to the payment of a certain debt due to her deceased husband.

Ordered, That the said petitions and memorials be referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Hard presented the petition of sundry citizens of Brockport, in the State of New York, praying for establishment of a mail route from Rochester to Lockport.

Mr. McComas presented the petition of J. F. Caldwell, of the State of Virginia, praying to be remunerated for injury sustained by the alteration of certain mail routes upon which he had contracted to carry the mail.

Mr. Luke Lea presented the memorial of sundry inhabitants of the State of Tennessee, relative to a mail route from Knoxville to Kingston, by way of Low's ferry, on Clinch river.

Mr. Dunlap presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of the State of Tennessee, praying for the extension of a mail route from Lagrange to Coffinville, in the Choctaw Purchase.

Mr. Garland, of Louisiana, presented a petition of sundry citizens of Louisiana, relative to a mail route between Point Coupee and Cheneyville. Mr. Lane presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of the State of Indiana, praying for a post route from Napoleon, in Indiana, to Georgetown, in Kentucky.

Mr. Chapman presented the memorial of sundry citizens of Benton county, Alabama, relative to the establishment of sundry post routes.

Mr. May presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of the counties of Sangamon, McLane, Lasalle, and Cooke, in the State of Illinois, praying for a post route from Springfield to Chicago.

Mr. Ashley presented the petition of sundry citizens of Missouri, praying for the establishment of a mail route from Columbia, in Boon county, to the county seat of Lafayette county.

Mr. Ashley presented the petition of George Knox, of Rocheport, in the State of Missouri, praying for a change in the mail stage route from Columbia, via Rocheport, Boonville, &c.

Mr. Sevier presented sundry documents of James Edington, of Arkansas, relative to a remuneration for past services rendered to the United States, in conveying the mail.
